The dramatic overhaul of UFC on FOX 8 continues, as after several changes to the card went down on Wednesday, the promotion has announced that Spencer Fisher has also withdrawn from the July 27th event. As a result, Daron Cruickshank has been tapped on short notice to battle Yves Edwards.
Cruickshank (12-3) will be looking to get back on track after he dropped a unanimous decision loss to John Makdessi at UFC 158 in March. The defeat ended the Michigan fighter’s six fight win streak, which included wins over Mike Ricci, Henry Martinez and Chris Tickle.
Edwards (42-19-1) dropped a tightly contested, split decision loss to rugged vet Isaac Vallie-Flagg in his last outing at UFC 156. Prior to that the “Thugjitsu Master” KO’d Jeremy Stephens at UFC on FOX 5 in December.
The change comes after the promotion announced that both Bobby Green and Siyar Bahadurzada have withdrawn due to injuries, and after reports that Matt Mitrione can no longer fight Brendan Schaub as scheduled because he’s also hurt.
UFC on FOX 8 will go down at Seattle’s Key Arena and will feature a flyweight bout between champ Demetrious Johnson and John Moraga in the main event. Jake Ellenberger is also scheduled to fight Rory MacDonald in a key welterweight fight. Both of those fights, as well as Cruickshank vs. Edwards, could be fantastic.
