UFC 162 Boetsch vs. Muñoz Recap

Muñoz Batters Boetsch

Mark Muñoz wanted to prove he was back tonight at UFC 162 and he accomplished that. After a trying year, Muñoz shook off some early rush to seize control late in the first. Boetsch would battle, but Muñoz’s brutal ground-and-pound and superior wrestling was the story of the fight. Muñoz would batter the ribs of Boetsch for the majority of the third round with his incredible power. The victory is Muñoz’s first since defeating Chris Leben at UFC 138 in 2011, with the injuries behind him, Muñoz is looking to bounce back in a big way.


Rd. 1- Touch of gloves to start the fight. Front kick by Boetsch and he uses it for a takedown attempt by Munoz throws back to  his feet. Boetsch with a slam and Munoz works back up. Munoz is back up again. Boetsch on a rush and lands a hard knee to the body. Munoz with a nice trip takedown and he quickly traps Boetsch legs but the barbarian works back up. Boetsch with a standing granby and Munoz follows well and lands a double. Boetsch trying a guillotine but his legs ate on the wrong side but he adjusts and uses it to sweep but Munoz escapes. Hard combo by Munoz and he lands another big right. Boetsch with a counter though and that stops the rush. Punches  and knees by Munoz in the clinch. Wicked combo on the break by Munoz. Fun round. MMAFrenzy has it 10-9 Muñoz.

Rd 2- Touch of gloves. Body kick by Boetsch. Nice combo by Munoz. Another lead left by Munoz. Munoz controlling the clinch on the cage now with knees and punches. Boetsch controls briefly but Munoz evades. Right by Boetsch.Cup check but Munoz waves it on and lands a nice trip takedown. Scramble now and Munoz ends up in backside mount. Munoz landing massive body punches from the front head position. Munoz with a nice trip takedown after Boetsch is up briefly. More shots by Munoz. Front-head lock by Munoz but Boetsch is out. Boetsch tries a takedown and Munoz is landing big body shots that are clearly hurting Boetsch. Huge shots by Munoz. Great round for Munoz. MMAFrenzy has it 10-9 Munoz (20-18).

Rd. 3- Big right by Munoz to start the round. Superman punch by Munoz. Takedown by Munoz is countered by a guillotine/Japanese neck tie from Boetsch. Munoz evades but ends up losing an arm bar. Munoz works out and is landing big shots now.Boetsch tries a half-ass granby and Munoz easily stops it. Back mount shots by Munoz. Boetsch tries a knee bar but he’s getting battered. Munoz is digging a kimura but gives it up to maintain position. Boetsch is now getting battered again. No-hook RNC attempt by Munoz but he loses it and still maintains position. Boetsch is getting crushed. Kneebar attempt by Boetsch but it is futile. Jumping shots by Munoz now. MMAFrenzy has it 10-8 Munoz (30-26).
