Best Submissions of 2013 (Mid-Year)

Pat Curran's submission of Shahbulat Shamhalaev is impressive for a number of reasons, with creativity being one of the main ones. Curran's front choke skills should worry anyone he fights, and this was just the latest example of that. Curran starts off the grappling exchange with beautiful wrestling and jumps to a front-head lock position and immediately transitions into a modified arm-in guillotine. Most arm-in guillotines are finished with the outside arm or become a front-choke, however Curran traps the inside arm like a wrestler does when looking for a whipback. Most of the time this would make this a strong candidate for the list, but the submissions have been a highlight of 2013.
Other Mentions: Rose Namajunas' Flying Armbar at Invicta FC 5, Ronda Rousey's armbar at UFC 157, Renan Barão's arm-triangle at UFC on FUEL TV 7
