After ratings fell flat for Bellator’s “Summer Series” opener and the debut of “Fight Master: Bellator MMA” last week, the reality show bounced back for SPIKE TV on Wednesday. Considering Fight Master features one of Bellator’s biggest signings in UFC legend Randy Couture, the higher ratings should relieve any concerned folks at Bellator or SPIKE.
According to a report from MMA Weekly.com, Fight Master drew 545,000 viewers on Wednesday, in comparison to last week, when the show’s premiere pulled 432,00. That’s a 26 percent increase and still dwarfs what Bellator broadcasts drew while it was airing on MTV 2. Season 8 for Bellator pulled an average of approximately 800,000 viewers.
As SPIKE’s Senior Vice President of Communications David Schwarz relayed several days ago, the first episode of Fight Master had to go up against the Stanley Cup Playoffs last Wednesday, which featured the Chicago Blackhawks taking on the Boston Bruins. Schwarz pointed to the game, as the seriers drew millions of viewers, as one reason why Fight Master and Bellator 96 ratings weren’t through the roof.
