Ummmm. This is weird. I swear it says Shogun/Coleman won fight of the night. I mean, I did kind of enjoy that fight, but fight of the night? Coleman showed A LOT of heart, but Shogun just wouldn’t/couldn’t finish. Some tomfoolery is going on behind the scenes at UFC. “Alright guys, just make the fight go 3 rounds and you’ll both get the bonus. Doesn’t matter if there are better fights on the card, we’ll give out 5 fight of the night bonuses if we have to.”

    • justin says:

The last two events saw “fight of the night” go to fights that ended well within the distance.

I don’t think that Rua v. Coleman deserved the “fight of the night” honors, but I suppose that seeing how it was a back and forth affair, and both men gassed in the first and gutted it out to keep fighting well into the third some people might feel like that deserved fight of the night.

  • DR.DOOM says:

You have to figure the layoff time … injuries . Not to mention that coleman was driven to try and win .How would coleman do against liddell in the same situation ? he might have put the iceman out is what . So Rua gets some appreciation for putting him away in my books . He’ll get better for the next fight .

  • Markus J says:

LMAO! hahaha… this is f’in hilarious. The shogun/coleman fight was the biggest piece of crap fight I have watched in a long time. This was suppose to be a stepping stone fight for Shogun and he could barely finish off the 44 year old, Coleman. It was suppose to be an easy fight for him that showed hid dominance in the 205lb division. Well, we saw a worse Rua than we did against Griffin. My god, fight of the night? yeah, okay! Dana, is just trying to build him up more and more cause he is paying him so much god damn money already. A fight with Chuck Liddell next? yes, very deserving. Only think I am lookign forward to in that fight is Liddell knocking him the F out.

    AWFUL!

  • JOHNBOY says:

coleman shogun fight of the night, what a fuking joke man that fight sucked ass

  • miggy24 says:

does anyone know how the judges scored the rua coleman fight. Im curious who they would have gave the decision to

  • joe says:

im no longer a fan of denis kang
    so so so disappointed

  • eddieko25 says:

shogun and coleman was horrible I like shogun but I think he dosnt care for fighting kinda like bj penn was a couple of years back he should get his game togeather and come back to being a bad ass like in pride

  • Ed says:

I started cheering for Coleman, even Joe Rogan started getting down on Rua. So Rua is going to fight Chuck? Are we supposed to be impressed if Chuck dismantles him?

  • Turk says:

How In the hell would Coleman/Rua win fight of the night? That was a disgrace to the sport. Granted coleman hasn’t fought since the 90’s ha ha but getting gassed in the first minute and a half is unheard of. Rua too, got tired way faster than he should of. Oh well now he [Rua] gets to get smashed by the Iceman. I also think Franklin got robbed on that decision, Granted you shouldn’t let it go to the refs but Hendo had nothing left after that 3rd round and Franky beat him in the 2nd round also. Maybe the decision was made when franklin didn’t care to coach again on TUF I seriously hate to believe that though, but then again its all about the $$$$$$.

    • matt says:

they probably wanted to give a little bit of credibility to both fighters shogun and Coleman, rua being a big time fighter(whether he has proved it in the ufc or not) and Coleman being hall of fame. and in fairness it was a decent brawl. Coleman looked sluggish before he gassed, and the fact rua gassed looks even worse than his inability to finish Coleman.

i don’t think Franklin got robbed, i wanted rich to win but at very best it may of been a draw. but i had it 2 rounds to 1 to Henderson as well. the only thing that was bad luck for Franklin was the eye poke allowing Henderson time to recover.

  • russiandoeboi says:

    well,
it WAS the most interesting fight. !ST ROUND ALONE WAS BERTTER THAN ANYTHING IVE SEEN IN A WHILE ROCK VS paper and scissors at the same time.
coleman was all heart and his style does take a lot of energy. shogun gassed more than usual probably because of the surgery/training, but not leastly cause of the legendary GnP kings force.

    FIRST RND WAS UNBELIEVABLABLY AWESOME),

Young un-injured TUF fighters wouldnt have gassed but..
no TUF fighters could make it out of the 1st round against either of these guys.

COLEMAN WAS ANGRY ABOUT THE STOPPAGE BUT HE WOULN”T HAVE TURNED IT AROUND AND MOST LIKELY WOULD HAVE JUST GOTTENE PUMMELED FOR NO REASON AT THAT POINT – THE GUY IS ONE OF THE ALL TIME GREATS.

AND SHOGUN IS THE SLICKEST FIGHTER EVER TIED WITH SPIDER – GLAD TO SEE HE”S BACK (EXCEPT FOR HIS CARDIO)

  • rylie says:

kang did not gas he obviously got cought to the body winced in serious pain and made a half assed shot attempt to recover

  • russiandoeboi says:

    put it this way:
is coleman has a show like that he’ll finish off a gate keeper in the stacked division – so have respect you keyboard warriors

    • fr702 says:

Keyboard warriors??? Well to not have respect for Coleman would be a shame, I don’t doubt him nor what he has done for the sport, I actually believe that if he joined a top camp he could get a few wins before the retirement happens, watch his post fight interview he even admits it….
I’m not sure what u meant by keyboard warrior but whatever..

  • russiandoeboi says:

right now shoguns cardio is weak, so i wouldn’r compare him to silva.
but technique wise stand up or striking i’d compare him if not give him the edge.
his kicks are way harder than spiders.
shoguns subs are awesome and very diverse.
    we’ll see next fight

  • russiandoeboi says:

    no offense meant but,
i just thought these guys left it in the octogon and deserve full respect even if you dont give it the fight of the night,
    thatsall

    • justin says:

Sure, they “left it in the octogon(sic),” but considering they both gassed in the first round (Coleman 2 minutes in and Rua 4 minutes in) I wouldn’t say they exactly brought a lot of “it” to the table. I said before “I don’t think that Rua v. Coleman deserved the ‘fight of the night’ honors, but I suppose that seeing how it was a back and forth affair, and both men gassed in the first and gutted it out to keep fighting well into the third some people might feel like that deserved fight of the night.”

Rua is not close to the Spider right now, PRIDE days maybe, but not now. Hence the sarcasm statement. I also don’t think that any part of that fight was better than anything I’ve seen in a while…I’ve watched a lot of fights the last two months.

  • matt says:

have we seen the payday stuff yet? im interested to see what franklin recieved in relation to henderson

  • Rbang says:

Anyone have an idea who Marcus Davis will fight next? Obviously there isnt anything official but damn, its got to be a top 5 or at least a top 10 fighter. Or rather should be.
