Bellator 96 took place tonight in Thackerville, Oklahoma and featured the light heavyweight tournament. Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal made an explosive return to the Bellator cage in the main event, landing a one-punch knockout of Seth Petruzelli. In the evening’s other semifinal, Jacob Noe battered Renato Sobral to make it to the finals with Lawal.
Lawal Destroys Petruzelli
Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal bounced back from his devastating loss to Emmanuel Newton in devastating fashion tonight in Oklahoma. Petruzelli was adamant that Lawal would not be able to knock him out but he was wrong in a big way. After a dubious restart, Lawal would secure a second takedown and looked to rain down ground-and-pound but backed out with Petruzelli firing back from the bottom. Lawal, who was controlling Petruzelli’s heels, swept “The Silverback’s” legs and fired one punch that immediately separated the fighter from consciousness.
The win puts Lawal back on the winning track and sees him advance to the Bellator Light Heavyweight Tournament finals.
Noe Batters “Babalu,” Brazilian Retires
Jacob Noe punched his ticket to the light heavyweight tournament finals by defeating Renato “Babalu” Sobral for three rounds. Noe was clearly the bigger and stronger man in the cage, as he muscled out of takedown attempts by the Brazilian. The fight was ultimately called after Noe battered Sobral with a hard series of punches that left the Brazilian staggering awkwardly to the other side of the cage. At that point the referee had seen enough, and somewhat surprisingly called an end to the fight to the chagrin of Sobral.
While Sobral was initially angered by the official’s decision to call a halt to the fight, even landing a light shove, he eventually accepted the decision. “Babalu” decided that enough was enough tonight, and called it a career after 48 career fights.
Noe now advances to the tournament finals opposite “King Mo” for a shot at the light heavyweight title.
