While Chan Sung Jung and his fans were likely overjoyed to hear the news that he’s been booked to fight UFC featherweight champ Jose Aldo, due to Anthony Pettis being injured, Ricardo Lamas supporters, however, maybe aren’t thrilled. While “The Korean Zombie” has scored some big wins and is a fan favorite because of his relentless pursuit of opponents, Lamas has also been taking out top level competition in impressive fashion (see bloody stoppage win over Erik Koch).
Not that long ago, Lamas relayed that he wasn’t too happy with the UFC’s decision to grant the former lightweight contender Pettis an immediate title shot, considering he hasn’t been competing at featherweight (Jung also went on record saying he disagreed with the move). So, what does he think of “TKZ” getting tapped as a replacement instead of him? Well, the 31 year-old vet recently posted the following on Twitter:
Minor set back, still training hard waiting to hear what’s officially happening with my fight, thanks @danawhite for the personal phone call
One has to wonder if Lamas would be calling the setback “minor”, if not for the call from White. Hopefully they can find “The Bully” a top ranked opponent.
It will also be interesting to see what the promotion does after Jung fights Aldo on August 3rd at UFC 163, and if Pettis is a lock to face the winner. One would think the answer is yes, since it doesn’t sound like the highlight reel striker will be on the sidelines for very long.
