With WSOF 3 in the books, and the MMA world still buzzing about Josh Burkman’s prompt choke-out win over Jon Fitch Friday night, the upstart promotion will start working on the finishing touches for it’s next event. To that end, the promotion has announced that it’s President, renowned kickboxer Ray Sefo, will take on vet David Huckaba at WSOF 4. Yes, if you’re new to this whole MMA thing, the promotion’s president is going to fight at the next event.
Sefo confirmed recently that he was going to compete on the card; however, at that time no opponent had been signed.
Although Huckaba may not be a familiar name to casual fans, the heavyweight holds a 20-5 record and is 9-1 in his last ten bouts. 8 of those wins came via KO or TKO (technically one was via submission due to strikes). So, in other words, it’s not like the WSOF is pulling someone off the bar stool to go fight Sefo.
Huckaba had been schedued to fight Rolles Gracie at WSOF 3, but the latter was injured and had to withdraw from the event.
Sefo hasn’t fought since February, 2011, when he was submitted by Valentijn Overeem under the Strikeforce banner. Although the 42 year-old has only fought three times in MMA, Sefo has over 70 kickboxing fights under his belt. He’s also gone 5-1 in pro boxing matches.
WSOF has also announced that former XFC lightweight champ Nick Newell will make his promotional debut at WSOF 4. No opponent has been confirmed yet.
The upcoming, August 10th card will take place at the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California and will be broadcast on the NBC Sports Network.
