Renan Barao may have been pulled from tomorrow night’s UFC 161 card in Winnipeg, but the interim bantamweight champ is reporting that he’s recovered from the injury, and that he’ll be ready to throw down soon. Then renowned fighter–he is 30-1–posted the following comment today via Twitter:
Hello @danawhite@ufc ! I’m back and I’m very excited to fight again. You can schedule my new fight now. I’m 100%. And could be in Brasil…
Not long after, the man who was supposed to battle Barao tomorrow night, Eddie Wineland, responded:
I’m ready if you are @RenanBaraoUFC come on over to Milwaukee and we will get it done! Glad to hear ur ankle is better!
Barao then relayed he’s willing to fight Wineland in Brazil, Canada, Milwaukee, “anywhere”, so it doesn’t sound like the location is going to be a stumbling block in negotiations.
Of course, in referencing Milwaukee, Wineland is referring to the promotion’s upcoming August 31st card in the Wisconsin city, which will feature lightweight champ Benson Henderson fighting TJ Grant in the headliner. The UFC is also set to return to Brazil on August 3rd for UFC 163, which will now see featherweight champ Jose Aldo taking on Chan Sung Jung.
There’s also the reigning bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz to consider in all this, who recently reported that he’s been cleared for boxing sparring, after undergoing two ACL surgeries. One would think, however, that if Barao is willing to fight soon, the promotion will rebook a bout between the interim champ and Wineland.
