Tonight’s coverage of UFC on FUEL TV 10 kicks off with our coverage of tonight’s opening trio of Facebook preliminary fights. In the third fight of the evening, Rodrigo Damm defeated Mizuto Hirota in a battle of Strikeforce veterans. In other action, Caio Magalhaes and Antonio Braga Neto notched victories.
Damm Edges Hirota
Rodrigo Damm and Mizuto Hirota came to battle tonight in Brazil. The two fighters went back-and-forth for three straight rounds on the Facebook undercard, with big strikes landing by both men. The difference in the fight likely came in the third frame, as Damm secured a takedown and then hit a nice suplex on his Japanese opponent. The win improves Damm to 2-1 in the UFC, while Hirota will likely be on the way out after falling to 0-2 with the promotion.
Magalhaes Comes From Behind to Finish Vemola
Brazilian fighter Caio Magalhaes showed a lot of heart in his bout with Karlos Vemola tonight in Fortaleza. Despite spending most of the first round on his back, Magalhaes stayed active and constantly attacked with various submissions to prevent Vemola from getting too comfortable and drain the Czech’s gas tank. In the second, Magalhaes came out to push the pace against his winded opponent as he ended up securing the takedown and eventually took Vemola’s back and forced him to tap to the choke. The Brazilian is now 1-1 in the UFC, while Vemola could be looking for work soon after falling to 2-4 in the Octagon.
Neto Taps and Snaps Smith
Antonio Braga Neto kicked off the evening with sweet display of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu against opponent Anthony Smith. After a brief striking exchange the fight hit the canvas and it was downhill from there for Smith. The Strikeforce veteran would try to sweep Neto out of top control but it ended up being exactly what the Brazilian wanted. The 2x BJJ World Champion would attack with a heel hook submission before expertly switching to the knee bar to force a very painful tap from his opponent.
