UFC 161: “Shogun” Removed From Card

Mauricio “Shogun” Rua will not fight next week in Winnipeg after Antonio Rogerio Nogueira was knocked off the UFC 161 card. The UFC announced the development via twitter.

The UFC will look to get “Shogun” back in action as soon as possible. The promotion had worked hard to make a bout happen between Chael Sonnen and Rua, however the bout was unable to materialize. Rua had a message about the bout on twitter, stating:

“Tonight I was home with my team studying the fights of my new opponent for UFC 161 when I got the sad news that Chael Sonnen can’t make it to the event. I wish to thank my fans all over the world for their love and support.”

Rua is likely land on either UFC 163 or UFC on Fox Sports 1 1, with Sonnen still a possible opponent.

UFC 161 takes place June 15 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. A light heavyweight pairing between former UFC champion Rashad Evans and Dan Henderson will headline the card.
