Gabriel Gonzaga is stepping on short notice to face off with Dave Herman at UFC 162. Herman’s original opponent, Shane Del Rosario, was forced off the card due to an injury. UFC officials announced the move late Friday.
Gonzaga suffered a somewhat controversial loss in last outing against Travis Browne. The Brazilian fighter was knocked out by a barrage of questionable elbows and would unsuccessfully appeal the loss. “Napão” will be facing off with Dave Herman when he steps into the Octagon. Herman will be in dire need of a victory, coming off three-straight losses and a suspension for marijuana in his UFC 153 loss to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.
UFC 162 takes place July 6 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The card will be headlined by a UFC middleweight title fight as champion Anderson Silva takes on Chris Weidman. A featherweight bout between former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar and Charles Oliveira will serve as the co-headliner.
