Josh Koscheck Signs 20-Month UFC Contract Extension
Welterweight contender Josh Koscheck has signed a 20-month contract extension with the UFC and hopes to fight six times in 2009, according to MMAMania.com, who confirmed the news with Koscheck late-yesterday.
“I feel that the extension is a good thing for me because I still have a job,” said Koscheck. “The UFC is the only show in town. If I wasn’t with them I would be a struggling fighter looking for work in a struggling country.
“There are a lot of reasons I want to fight so much. I am in the gym all year around and I would rather be fighting then just training. The only way I make money is by fighting. So I told the UFC that I want to fight five or six times in 2009. I don’t care who I fight, anyone willing to step up I’ll be ready. I am a fighter and that’s what I love to do.”
Koscheck’s first fight of 2009 is slated for February 21st when he takes on UFC newcomer Paulo Thiago at UFC 95 in London, England.

yeah one of my to 5 fighters kos, hope he can get a shot in 2009 not many people can hang wiv him
I don’t know if I’d put him as one of my top 5 fighters, but I love the attitude. “I’m a fighter, I want to fight, give me anyone you think is ready. 6 times a year will be nice.”
I wish one of the conditions was that he got a hair cut – good news nevertheless
He actually did get a hair cut after his last fight. Check it out:

that hair cut has put about 10 years on kos lol grow it back kid
Yea..KOS is my fav fighter….so this is awesome to see – was afraid Dana was going to boot him bc of the video game issues…aka… I hope he gets another crack at the belt…he is better than he was when he 1st fought GSP and he couldnt finish KOS then…but then again, GSP is better now than he was then too…..can’t wait….they just need to give KOS better fights…and not these no namers!!!
i see bj beating gsp so i think we will be seeing kos vs gsp very soon, then hopefully if he can get past him, then he will get a shot at the winner of penn alves, but bj has to go fight kenny 1st so the 170 pound guys are guna have a long wait if bj wins.
I agree with you on one thing. BJ will beat GSP, but there is no way Kos will get pass GSP. Way more rounded of a fighter GSP is. I like KOS a lot also, but he doesnt stand a chance against “Rush”.
Nice that he still has his job, most know that im not a huge fan of his, yet his talent cannot be denied… Plus more oppritunities to see him possibly get stoped, 6 fights in one year ask CC how that worked out for him, it will be interesting to see if Kos can pull it off
Good fighter, has great spirit.
That’s what i like to hear!
BJ wont beat GSP – 1st off
2nd…KOS has a better shot at GSP this time, I think where he messed up last time was he didnt train at all with his wrestling, bc he had the attitude that Im a D1 wrestler, I dont need to train…then GSP dominated him in that aspect…I think the way he has looked lately… able to take shots from Alves…knocking out that no namer for the fight for the troops…I think he has a good shot at GSP – but if I had to bet my house on it, Id take GSP…just like Id bet my house on GSP beating Penn
And where is it you live and what’s the economic structure looking there, what’s the sq ft of your house, how many rooms do u have?? How big is your garage?? Just wondering what this bet intells
Not very big – 1800 sq feet, 4 bed/2 bath/1 garage in south dakota… which its -25 degrees this morning (-46 degree’s in a town about 2 hrs from here)
There is no way Penn will move up 15 lbs and beat a guy who is as dominant as GSP – Penn made it close the 1st time they fought, GSP wont let it be close this time – I really cant see anyone beating GSP anytime soon..this guy is 1A or 1B when it comes to the best P4P fighter out there..in my opinion, of course…
Damn that’s cold, GSP is great no doubt I’m a fan of his forsure, I believe Penn will win and that’s where u and I will disagree… Either one could win by various ways that’s one of the reasons this is an epic fight
master shake^
Kos is not going to get a shot @ the belt any time soon. First it will be Thiago Alves- vs GSP then it will either be Swick vs GSP or Karo vs GSP or FITCH vs GSP, who knows, Kampan might move up the ranks and fight GSP for the belt.
I like Kos’s attitude. He still has areas to grow in but he’s a great fighter with great potential.
5-6 fights a year is a mighty lofty goal. True it will probably take 5-6 fights (assuming his record isn’t destroyed) to get another title shot, but I can’t see him doing it in ‘09 alone. I don’t like Kos, but he’s undeniably one of the top 170s in the UFC.
If he manages to fight 5-6 times in 2009 this will be very interesting. I love it when fighters are extremely active. It’s easier to be a fan of a specific fighter when said fighter is extremely active. That being said Stephan Bonnar better fight a whole lot in 2009.
Bonnar isn’t far from being cut, I think. He shot his wad in that first TUF finale.
NA it was the roids, twig and berries type thing i think
there’s a lot of Kos haters out there, but man, he’s grown on me. the guy is fun to watch and steps up. i hope he gets a bunch of fights…
well bonnar will have his hands full with jon jones…jones is a very flashy striker and throws alot of fancy moves but he knows how to connect with them to…..its gonna be a good fight i believe
Kos is won of the better fighers in his weight, but he will never be the champ! Sorry thats just the way it is.
love him or hate him kos is a top draw fighter. also one of the most improved in a short time so he works damn hard. at the moment he isn’t championship material, but the improvement that we have seen from him could put him in that position in the future. thiago alves is probably the best of the rest right now, but kos maybe the next best.
Kos had a good outing against Alves, considering how much short notice he took the fight on, but to say he can compare to GSP, and maybe even take the title from him is a bit over the top. For some fighters there is just an unfortunate road block for them in their divisions. Hence, Sean Sherk still may be the best lightweight, but is not likely to ever beat BJ. Rich Franklin could and would beat anyone at middleweight, but Anderson Silva isnt going anywhere. I believe Kos is in that same position at welterwewight.
when kos fought GSP it wasn’t for the belt? i thought it was GSP’s first fight after he lost t serra? kos never had a title shot?
Yes. Yes. Yes.
I think fitch would eat Kos
Kos lost against gsp, alves, no way he could beat bj, imo I think fitch would beat him, so maybe he would be 5th best in that divison, imo. A looong way to go.
kos would beat penn. unless penn gets ko inside first min
I think alot of people would disagree with that
