After putting together a five fight win streak, not only is John “Doomsday” Howard hoping to make his Octagon return at UFC on FS 1, but the Massachusetts fighter is willing to fight for free to get on the card. That’s probably not the kind of thing men like John Cholish and Jacob Volkmann want to hear right about now.
Howard, you may recall, started out his UFC tenure impressively by winning four straight fights, which included knockout wins over Dennis Hallman and Daniel Roberts. “Doomsday” proceeded to drop three in a row to noted welterweights Jake Ellenbeger, Thiago Alves and Matt Brown, however, and was let go in 2011.
While speaking to Above and Beyond MMA.com recently, the 30 year-old Howard relayed that he’s “hit his prime” and is ready to come back to the UFC. So much so, he says he’s ready to fight Georges St. Pierre if Dana White asked him to. That’s probably not going to happen but you can see where he’s going with this.
Of course, since UFC on FS 1 will take place in Boston, Howard would love nothing more than to make his Octagon return at the show. Case in point:
“Dana White, I know you watch me, man. I’m from Dorchester — I’m from Boston, brother. Help me out, man. Give me a second chance. I beg you to give me a second chance and I’ll prove to you that, not only do I belong there, but I can be that next welterweight champion. Bring me back, man — bring me back! This is how serious I am about this — you don’t need to pay me to fight! Don’t pay me — I’ll fight for free! I’ll fight for free just to fight in Boston for the UFC.”
That’s quite the offer. Pay or no pay, UFC fans could see “Doomsday” back soon if he keeps winning.
