A heavyweight clash has been added to UFC 164 as former UFC champions Josh Barnett and Frank Mir will square off in Milwaukee. The UFC announced the pairing on Wednesday.
The recently signed Josh Barnett comes into his bout with Mir coming off a victory over Nandor Guelmino at the Strikeforce finale this past January. The bout will signal Barnett’s first bout in the UFC since blowing out Randy Couture for the UFC heavyweight title at UFC 36. Barnett would be stripped of the title and left the promotion following a positive test for banned steroids.
The “War Master” comes into the UFC off a 3-1 run in Strikeforce, the lone loss coming to top contender Daniel Cormier in the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix final.
Barnett will be taking on a fellow UFC champion in Frank Mir. The longtime UFC veteran is looking to get back in the win column after back-to-back losses to Daniel Cormier and Junior dos Santos.
UFC 164 will take place at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on August 31 and will air live on PPV. The card will feature a pair of featherweight bouts as Dustin Poirier takes on Erik Koch and Chad Mendes takes on Clay Guida. No headliner has been named for the card at this time.
