Update: Forrest Griffin Expecting Summer Return

On the heels of a report that Forrest Griffin could miss all of 2009 due to a broken hand suffered in late-December, sources have informed MMA Weekly that Griffin expects to be fully healed in just two ti three months and is anticipating a summer return to action:
According to the information attained, Griffin had surgery on his hand – specifically one of his metacarpals – to repair the injury. He currently has a cast on, but expects to be healed in two to three months. The Georgia native is in good spirits following the surgery, and doesn’t plan on sitting out for any extended period of time.
With the surgery and recovery time, he expects a likely return to action summer. Until then, he will stay busy with other work, such as seminars and the like, although he is never one to stray too far from working out with teammates at Xtreme Couture in Las Vegas.

Thanks for the backup FR, plus the first article clearly says “Report” in the title to indicate that it hasn’t been verified yet. The Sun is wrong more often than other publications and it even said in the first article he could be back in the fall, which isn’t really far off from a likely mid-to-late summer return.
Yeah, the Sun is a bit of a gossip rag from what I hear.

My personal feelings on the situation is that Forrest has alot of rehab to go through if he had pins put in his hand, which to be in fighting shape (hand), he will have to do alot of work, so my prediction is late summer before he can actually fight, it is a very painful process forsure….
The MMA Weekly report didn’t mention pins and said the surgery was on one of his fingers (“metacarpels”). I’m making an assumption here but I’d venture a guess that if the surgery was on his finger only it means a lot shorter recovery time and would make the 2-3 month recovery time realistic.
Aren’t the metacarpals the bones in the hand that eventually become the fingers?

Just asked my nursing student girlfriend about this who informed me you’re right, though he still likely injured a single bone as opposed to multiple fractures if the injury was in his wrist-area.

Anyways, anyone know what hand was broken? If it was his left (as his wiked broken arm back back in ‘03), would he look into taking advantage of the downtime and have it properly looked at? Clearly his left arm kind of fixed itself, but it doesn’t look right and there may still be the risk of longterm effects.

forrest is a good fighter butt.. he’s not even close to the fighter rashad or 9 or ten other fighters in his weight class are he needs to devlope more punching power or more ground skills if he ever wants to get back to were he was… being dana’s btch only gets u so far!
Yeah, he’s not even in the top ten fighters at 205, that’s why he was the champion before he lost to Rashad… I wonder where that puts Rampage and Rua then, number 12 and 13?
