Daniel Cormier hasn’t been shy about the fact he’s interested in moving to light-heavyweight and fighting champ Jon Jones, and although his transition to the division won’t happen for several months, the rhetoric between the two men continues to heat up. Jones, who is expected to fight Alexander Gustafsson when he returns from injury, recently took to Twitter and posted:
Someone ask DC when his diet starts
It’s nice to see “wolftickets” has apparently become part of the MMA vernacular. Right before attending a Q&A session Friday at this week’s UFC 160 events in Las Vegas, Cormier was informed of Jones’ tweet, and relayed to the fans and UFC commentator Jon Anik:
“I haven’t started cutting weight yet, but we can fight at 220 tomorrow if he wants,” Cormier said. “He can walk off the street, whatever he weighs now, and we can get in the Octagon. Let’s fight at any weight Jon, you and I.”
Now of course, Cormier has already committed to one more fight at heavyweight and is hoping to compete at the August 17th, UFC on FS 1 card in Boston. So, it’s not like the renowned wrestler will be making his light-heavyweight debut anytime soon, but still, Cormier vs. Jones would be pretty sweet. Perhaps Jones would entertain a catch-weight bout with Cormier if he defeats Gustafsson in his next bout, and if the two continue to exchange verbal jabs. Of course, a certain superfight with Anderson Silva is likely first on the agenda.
