Thales Leites Returning to UFC

Thales Leites

Former UFC middleweight number one contender Thales Leites is returning to the UFC after nearly four years outside the promotion. While GloboTV first reported the news, the UFC has confirmed the signing by adding the middleweight’s profile back to their fighter database.

Leites has no return date set at this time, however it seems likely that he will push to join the UFC 163 fight card.

The elite grappler has gone 6-1 after being cut from the UFC following back-to-back losses. Leites avenged his lone loss outside the UFC in his last fight, defeated MMA veteran Matt Horwich via submission in March of 2012.

Leites was once considered one of the best middleweight fighters in the world before falling out of favor with the UFC for his unconventional strategy in his UFC 97 loss to middleweight champion Anderson Silva. The promotion would cut Leites after a UFC 101 loss to Alessio Sakara.
