Matt Hamill vs. Mark Munoz Added To UFC 96; Jensen-Steinbeiss Shifted to UFC Fight Night 18
Light heavyweights Matt Hamill and Mark Munoz will meet at UFC 96 on March 7th in Columbus, Ohio, according to MMAJunkie.com.
Hamill (5-2), a three-time NCAA Division III wrestling champion and cast member on the third season of The Ultimate Fighter, earned three-straight victories to begin his UFC career but has since gone 2-2, dropping bouts to Michael Bisping and Rich Franklin while picking up victories over Tim Boetsch and, most-recently, Reese Andy. A WEC veteran, Munoz earned victories in the UFC’s sister promotion over Chuck Grigsby and Ricardo Barros before being forced to make the jump to the UFC’s 205-pound division.
In other UFC 96 news, a planned bout between middleweights Ryan Jensen and Steve Steinbeiss has been shifted to UFC Fight Night 18 on April 1st in Nashville, Tennessee, according to Five Ounces of Pain.

I like Matt but honestly I dont think he will win this fight. After His abismal victory over Andy I really thought he would take some time and get his striking worked out a little more
If this ppv were not two hours up the road from his hometown, Hamill would have been on the fight night instead. Oh, well. Gotta root for the hometown boy. Go Hamill.
hamill should win easily and i expect him to prform really good infront of everyone here
I’m noticing a trend, the girls in these pictures are almost never looking at the fighters.
I read an interview with a band’s frontman once. Can’t remember who it was, but he said he never did anything with groupies. He knew what they had to do to get backstage.
Same principle, perhaps?
That would mean the fighters not being interested in the girls, not the other way around…. unless you don’t mean that, and its the fighters that have to….Dana…. ugh… Nah, I don’t think so.
I just meant perhaps they know too much about them….who’s got what, done whom, etc.
Don’t sleep on Mark here…kid is sick. Hamill may have the 3 D3 champs but Munoz would probably have the same in D1 were it not for that Cael kid from Iowa State, in other words forget about the wrestling it evens out there. Plus Mark’s striking has been more accurate while Hamill doesn’t really seem to be progressing with accuracy, he’s still in the swing hard and hope you land phase. If Hamill isn’t careful this could be a break out fight for Munoz.
dont really no to much about mark munoz, but hes got no easy task fighting the hammer first up
This card is shaping out to be pretty mediocre.
So we’re less than 2 months from UFC 96, and there’s still no main event. In fact, there really are no “confirmed” matches according to the official website. UFC’s really dropping the ball here. Although Hazelett/Saunders will be exciting and GG/Carwin will be awesome, that’s about all I’m excited about on this card. I hope this doesn’t turn into a UFC 95 debauchery (worst main event in UFC history). Good thing I went and bought my tickets early!!!
I’ll be there too! The UFC 95 main event is looking a lot better than Gonzaga-Carwin though, which is currently the headliner of 96.
Wow, we’re complaining about the main event of a free show again…. I guess you won’t be watching 95 then, eh?
I know we r mma junkies but we should never complain about free cards
If he cleans up his striking he will b hard 2 stop! If he comes out like rd2 of andy fight bye bye munoz.
I got tickets too. Spent close to $400 a piece, expecting Liddell to fight. The UFC is really making me sweat this one because so far the card looks like a Fight Night.
I know Mark personally. He is way more athletic thaen M.H., as well as a better wrestler. The only way for Munoz to loose this fight is for him to loose it and his outlook is great! Otherwise Hamill is SOL.
I know Mark personnally as well and I know what he is capable of. There may not be a lot out there on him yet but that is about to change. He has been training hard and he is not an opponent to take lighty. There is no way that M.H. has this fight in the bag. Either way the time will come and we will see who will come out victorious. Go Munoz!!!!!!!!!!
I believe people saying M.H. has it in the bag or this is an easy fight for M.H. dont know there butt from a hole in the ground. I went to Vallejo High with Mark and I watched him tear people up. He was undefeated throughout high school. I am very excited that he went this route. This is a sure victory for Mark and it will probably be quick. For me this is the main event. Munoz by KO!
