Former UFC fighter Paul Kelly has reportedly been convicted of trafficking in heroin in his native England, and as a result, the 28 year-old is likely facing a lengthy prison sentence.
According to a report from the Liverpool Echo, the trial’s Judge Mark Brown informed the jury afterwards that their decision was founded on the“clearest evidence”, and added that Kelly is “the boss” in a drug trafficking ring. The trial lasted four days and Kelly is now awaiting sentence.
The fighter reportedly yelled out “I’ve got two kids” after hearing the jury’s decision.
Kelly (14-5) made his Octagon debut in 2008 at UFC 80, and worked his way to a unanimous decision win over Paul Taylor. Kelly ended up fighting in nine UFC events and exited from the promotion with a record of 5-4. In his last Octagon outing, Kelly was submitted by Donald Cerrone at UFC 126 in Februray, 2011.
Most recently, Kelly scored back-to-back victories while competing for British promotions, after dropping a unanimous decision loss to Ryan Healy a Super Fight League event last April.
