The XFC has stripped lightweight champion Nick Newell of his lightweight title after the fighter apparently refused to fight Scott Holtzman for the title. The two fighters were originally set to face off in the main event of XFC 24 before Newell was removed from the card. The promotion made the announcement earlier today.
The lightweight fighter, who is famous for his success despite only having only one full arm, has apparently been released by the promotion as well.
Newell has not released a statement at this time, but more is expected to be announced soon. Newell has never hid his desire to fight in the UFC, and it appears the two sides hit an impasse over who the now former champion would fight. With Holtzman earning his title shot earlier this year and Newell apparently only wanting to face former UFC fighters, issues arose and Newell has now been stripped of his title.
A new main event for XFC 24 will be announced shortly.
Newell tweeted this earlier today, Inside MMA is planning to cover more on the story tonight on AXS.tv.
It’s never good to point fingers without hearing both sides of the story
