Although most people expect Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva to do battle, after the former captured headlines recently by calling out the latter, according to Sonnen the bout’s not a done deal. The former middleweight contender has issued a deadline to Silva via Twitter, and has done so in very typical Sonnen form.
Wand- you have 24 hours to accept. If you do, I will donate 10% of my purse to help schools in your hometown of Curitiba .. I mean, VEGAS.
Sonnen originally called for the bout with Silva while appearing on “UFC Tonight”, just a few days removed from his stoppage loss at the hands and elbows of light-heavyweight champ Jon Jones. Silva got everyone’s hopes up via Twitter, by saying “let’s go”, telling Sonnen “real men talk face-to-face” and posting a video of their now famous encounter in 2010.
It appears, however, that the fight has not been signed yet as most people hope. That doesn’t mean it won’t get done of course. There’s been speculation that the fight could wind up on the August 17th, UFC on FOX Sports 1 card, since the UFC is looking to fill it with several all-star match-ups. Silva vs. Sonnen would certainly qualify as that.
