Camozzi: Beating “Jacare” Worth “Top 10″ Spot

Chris Camozzi has put together a nice, four fight win streak, and although the middleweight hasn’t exactly been dominating headlines lately, if he takes out “Jacare” Souza at UFC on FX 8 that could change.

Camozzi was scheduled to fight Rafael Natal at the upcoming May 18th card, but after Souza’s original opponent Costas Philippou was pulled from the event due to a cut, the Colorado vet was matched up with “Jacare.” As a result, Camozzi has been given not only an opportunity to spoil the UFC debut of Souza, but to score a pivotal win over the former Strikeforce champ.

Of course, defeating the renowned jiu-jitsu star at anytime would be huge, but since Camozzi has been steadily moving his way up the middleweight ranks, he knows just how big a win over Souza could be. While speaking to MMA Radio, Camozzi stated:

“I think with a win it definitely puts me in the top 10,” Camozzi said. “There are other guys ranked in the top 10 that never beat a top-10 opponent, so I think by me beating one, I should get to replace one of those guys.”

Considering how “Jacare” has looked in most of his MMA bouts to date, it’s hard to argue that a win over the Brazilian shouldn’t propel Camozzi into the top ten. Whether he can get that win, however, is another matter.
