Anderson Silva

UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva was reportedly fined $50,000 by the UFC for missing a scheduled media appearance to promote his UFC 162 fight with Chris Weidman. The middleweight kingpin spoke recently spoke with Brazilian news outlet Veja to explain his absence and chalked it up a miscommunication.

Said Silva:

“I’ve never missed any commitment to the UFC. I would never have made the trip to Brazil if I knew I had to be in Los Angeles. Everyone knows that I always lock my media schedule to devote myself to training, since that’s my main priority. I’m an athlete, and my focus will always be to train and be prepared for the challenges.”

UFC president Dana White fined “The Spider” $50K for missing out on the scheduled appearance. Silva also told the Brazilian website that he had recently filmed a commercial for the UFC and also taken part in a previous media day on April 30.

Silva will square off with Chris Weidman on July 6 in the main event of UFC 162.
