Despite incurring a gruesome injury in his recent win over Chael Sonnen, Jon Jones is reporting that he continues to recover well from the dislocated toe he received at UFC 159 on April 27th. If you didn’t see the injury, do yourself a favor and don’t go looking for a picture of it.
The UFC Light-Heavyweight Champion, who cruised through Sonnen en route to a first round, stoppage win, has announced via Twitter:
The alignment of my bones are healing spot on and the skins closing with no infections
The 25 year-old star also relayed that because his foot is recovering well, he’s heading to Jamaica and Russia for a vacation as planned.
No specific details regarding when Jones will be able to return to action have been reported yet. The champion’s recovery is expected to be quicker, however, now that it’s been confirmed his toe was dislocated and not severely broken as originally feared.
Lyoto Machida and Alexander Gustafsson are both hoping to face Jones next, but depending on when the light-heavyweight can return to action, a bout between the top contenders could be signed.
Jones is hoping to beat the title defense record (five) that he and former champ Tito Ortiz currently hold, before exploring super fights or bouts at heavyweight. Prior to UFC 159 and the injury, Jones said he was hoping to fight again sometime this fall.
