Talented light heavyweight Tyrone Spong (69-6-1 kickboxing, 1-0 MMA) has joined the upcoming GLORY 9 light heavyweight tournament. Spong was originally set to join the kickboxing card in a super fight, however his entry into the tournament was not announced until today.
Spong enters the tournament fresh off a GLORY 5 victory over Remy Bonjasky. The Surinamese fighter floored his fellow countryman with a wicked right hook in the second round of their battle in London. The “King of the Ring” was supposed to fight at World Series of Fighting 3 but visa issues prevented him from having a full camp and he cancelled what was supposed to be his second MMA fight.
GLORY 9 will mark the GLORY World Series’ US debut as the kickboxing promotion takes to the Hammerstein Ball Room at the Manhattan Center in New York City on June 22. The card will also feature a hard-hitting heavyweight super fight as Daniel Ghita takes on Brice Guidon.
