The UFC flyweight division has only been in existence for a few months, but already the makings of some pretty intriguing rivalries and rematches are in the works. While impressive wins are a great way to get remembered by fans, so are memorable series and rematches, just ask Frankie Edgar. John Dodson is hoping to do the same.
Although Demetrious Johnson is scheduled to fight John Moraga at UFC on FOX 8 on July 27th, that hasn’t stopped Dodson from calling for a rematch with the champ. Johnson handed the former TUF winner a UD loss at UFC on FOX 6 in January, which was a very competitive and entertaining bout.
Speaking to MMA Fighting.com, Dodson relayed that although he still believes he defeated Johnson, he remains a fan of the flyweight. Naturally, if you think you beat the champ, then you’re going to call for a rematch.
“I wanted to go right away, but since [Johnson] already has a fight, I don’t care who I have to fight to lead up to that. I’m going to go back there, I’m going to win every one of my next fights including my next title fight. I will get that rematch, and I will win.”
If Dodson keeps performing the way he has been, there’s a good chance he’ll work his way into a rematch with Johnson, or face Moraga, if the Arizona fighter dethrones the champ this summer.
