Nick Diaz’s camp may say a bout with Georges St. Pierre or Anderson Silva are the only things that will bring the fighter out of his second stage of retirement, but according to Carlos Condit’s manager, a rematch with his client might also do the trick.
Condit is represented by Malki Kawa, who in a recent appearance on The MMA Hour, talked about what he hopes is next for the former interim champ. Kawa relayed that Condit plans to focus on his wrestling game in the short term, thanks to men like GSP and Johny Hendricks, and that he wants to line-up some “big fights” for the welterweight.
What would constitute a “big fight”? Naturally a rematch with Diaz, who Condit handed a tightly contested, unanimous decision loss last February (and prompted Diaz’s first retirement).
“I can tell you one I’d like to see again is him and Nick Diaz one more time,” Kawa reportedly said. “I just think that might be enough to get Nick to come out of retirement, who knows?”
It could work, maybe not in the short term, but over the coming months if Diaz gets the itch to fight again, he very well may decide he wants to avenge his loss to Condit. Especially since the chances of Diaz fighting Silva or GSP anytime soon are extremely slim.
And as far as the fans? Condit vs. Diaz II has a nice ring to it right?
