UFC 160 will feature a lightweight title eliminator between Gray Maynard and T.J. Grant. UFC president Dana White was quick to put the kibosh on an immediate rematch between Gilbert Melendez and UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson by announcing the move in the closing comments of tonight’s UFC on FOX 7 Press Conference.
Gray Maynard was supposed to be back in action this past December for UFC 155 but was forced off the card with injury. The decorated lightweight is now looking to gain another shot at the title when he faces Grant.
Canadian fighter T.J. Grant is truly one of the more underrated fighters currently at lightweight. The quiet fighter has won four straight fights since dropping to lightweight, last defeating Matt Wiman with a furious barrage of strikes. The bout with Maynard will certainly be a big test for the native of Nova Scotia.
UFC 160 takes place May 25 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The fight card will be headlined by a heavyweight title fight between champion Cain Velasquez and Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva. A bout between Mark Hunt and Junior dos Santos will co-headline the Memorial Day weekend card.
