The tryouts for The Ultimate Fighter 18 opened today in Las Vegas, Nevada. The tryouts brought out many well-known names in the Women’s MMA circuit currently outside of UFC to try their luck at making the historic season of the UFC’s reality show. According to multiple sources, the names included WMMA pioneers Tara LaRosa and Shayna Baszler, as well as former Strikeforce title challenger Roxanne Modaferri .
Other names in attendance included Invicta FC prospects Sarah Moras, Jessamyn Duke, Raquel Pennington, and Jocelyn Lybarger. Even WMMA featherweights showed up, as unbeaten featherweight prospects Peggy Morgan and Sweden’s Pannie Kianzad turned out. Boxer Andre Berto’s sister, Revelina Berto, was also in attendance.
Notable fighters missing from the festivities included Leslie Smith, who dropped a controversial decision to Sarah Kaufman at Invicta FC 5, as well as elite kickboxer Miriam Nakamoto and talented boxer Holly Holm.
The tryout is, as always, divided into two sessions testing a prospect’s grappling and striking. If a fighter passes these sessions, the fighters are then interviewed to test their personalities. This is definitely going to be an interesting season of The Ultimate Fighter.
