UFC on Fox 8 continues to fill out as former Strikeforce welterweight champion Tarec Saffiedine is set to meet Robbie Lawler this July in Seattle. The welterweight pairing will likely end up on the Fox main card but no official word on that at this time. UFC officials announced the pairing earlier today.
Tarec Saffiedine became the final welterweight champion in Strikeforce history when he defeated Nate Marquardt with a devastating array of leg kicks. Saffiedine has won four straight bouts since a 2011 loss to Tyron Woodley at a Strikeforce Challengers event.
Robbie Lawler got back in the win column in a big way at UFC 157 by blasting Josh Koschek into unconsciousness. The win improved Lawler to 2-1 in his last three fights.
UFC on Fox 8 marks the UFC’s return to Seattle after successful cards each of the last two years. The fight card will take place July 27 at the KeyArena. No main event has been named at this time, however UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson (a Washington native) is aiming to return from injury on the July fight card.
