The bout saw Larson start off tentatively, after a head kick from Manhoef connected, the former WEC Welterweight Title challenger would turn his back and run across the cage in an attempt to survive, selling out on a heel hook.
The second stanza saw the Dutchman once again hurt Larson with a kick, but his attempts to swarm and finish the fight were thwarted by the superior grappling of the Get Sum fighter. Larson locked up a late armbar, which “No Mercy” attempted to slam his way out of, only finding himself on his back, saved by the bell.
Keeping with the trend, the final period got off to a slow start. Two minutes into the closer, Larson secured a takedown and advanced to mount, where he pounded at Melvin for an extended period of time. While the kickboxer was able to regain half guard, it wasn’t for long, as he once again lost it, and would continue to eat shots on his back until the final bell. The judges would then render a unanimous decision for Larson.
