UFC president Dana White is not happy with the Swedish MMA Federation’s decision to not clear Alexander Gustafsson to fight this weekend. White took to twitter (pictured below) to voice his displeasure with the SMMAF, believing that the Swedish fighter should have been cleared to go.
Gustafsson fell during training last week and cut himself when he landed on the cage. The cut required three stitches to close and was just above his eye.
Cuts are a particularly tricky thing to deal with due to the fact that they can easily reopen despite appearing closed. Compounding the issue was the fact the Gustafsson’s cut was in the danger zone over his eye and could have ended the fight if the cut reopened. Usually fighters are usually given a 30-60 suspension after a fight to allow for a cut to properly heal.
Gustafsson’s original opponent, Gegard Mousasi, will take on the Swede’s teammate Ilir Latifa this weekend in Sweden.
