Dana White Says Mir-Lesnar Rematch Could Happen in April
UFC President Dana White revealed earlier today that UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar and interim UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir are tentatively slated to meet in April to unify the titles.
“Mir took little damage in his fight with Nog, and Lesnar wants to fight him soon, so April may be the time and place for that. It will be good,” White told Fighters Only.
The promotion’s only major event currently scheduled for April is UFC 97 on April 18th in Montreal, Canada. Though the UFC has not yet finalized it’s return to the Bell Centre due to hockey playoff scheduling, the event is already rumored to include a middleweight championship fight featuring current title-holder Anderson Silva squaring off against challenger Thales Leites. David Losieau vs. Ed Herman and Jonathan Goulet are also rumored for the card.
Mir enters the rematch with Lesnar off a December upset of Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira while Lesnar claimed his title from Randy Couture in November.

Looking forward to this fight. I find it a bit surprising that Lesnar is in such a hurry to get to this fight, though. I would think he wanted more time to work on not getting submitted, but I guess not.
I guess he thinks 4+ months is enough time. Watching Mir’s striking on Big Nog, Lesnar has more to worry about then tapping.
Agreed. I just wonder if Mir can keep that fire he had going into the Nog fight. And, if Mir gets blasted by a big right hand from Lesnar like he did the first time…I don’t think he’ll get to use that striking so much.
Mir is fighting for a title he won when the division was at it’s weakest. Mir’s striking still sucks, it only looked good because Nog was fighting like crap. Herring outstriked Nog too, and look what happened to him against Lesnar.
Lesnar isn’t going to let Mir fight off his back this time, I give Lesnar 2nd round KO.
By the way, what’s the excuse going to be this time when Lesnar wins? Herring was never any good, Couture was washed out, Mir was overrated? Same ****, different day.
he has a cok on his chest is that good enough for ya
Nope. Predictable, though. The real punchline is after he wins, Mir lost to the guy with “a cok on his chest”
Anon, someone had to fuel your fire and give you the predictable answer you were looking for i mean it was quite obvious
I’m sure the haters will come up with something if he wins.
Roids
crack cocaine, I hear he has been co chillin with Melvin Guillard, just a rumor that I really never heard just wanting to talk a little shhh on Melvin
Easy. Who has Nog out-boxed in recent history? Anybody can keep Nog at bay with striking. Mir is proof of that.
Anon you are more of a hater than people who arent impressed with lesner. Who does mir have to beat so people quit making excuses for him. The division was weak when he was champ, he got lucky with lesner the first time, nog fought like crap lol whatever mir wins again!
Nog fight like crap against all 3 of his UFC opponents, or do you only watch Mir fights? Sylvia would have won if he’d just kept the fight standing, Herring had him practically TKO’d too but let him recover, then Mir comes along with half-way decent striking at a good time and wins. Great. You honestly think that striking is going to work against Lesnar? That’s a rhetorical question of course, because anyone with half a brain knows the answer is a definite “no”. And don’t bring up his leg kicks either. Last time he tried that against Lesnar, he nearly fell over and got socked in the face, knocking him down again. Right, great striking there. Can’t even stand after a leg kick.
Why don’t you ask Mir, Herring, and Couture? In far less time than Mir spent striking Nog, Lesnar sent all 3 of them to the canvas, TKO’d Couture (after lifting him off the canvas several times with knees), broke Herring’s orbital bone, and was on his way to a win over Mir before Mazzagatti stepped in.
And yet despite this, no – we haven’t seen it in all it’s glory, yet it’s still better than anything Mir has done. So what do you think is going to happen if Mir is dumb enough to let him use it?
Basically, I’m saying Nog lucked out that Sylvia got wild, then lucked out again when Herring overestimated him. And hell I’ll admit, I STILL thought Nog was going to crush Mir because no, I don’t think he’s that great.
4chan^????????
^ Sherdog?????
so i hear you like mudkips ^??????????
Lesner’s a big strong guy no doubt. Regardless of minotaros performance mirs striking looked crisp and we all know he’s good on the ground. He tapped lesner with ease mazagotti didn’t have to step in, as far as “tugboat’s” fight with couture please couture wasn’t in top shape for his age and still managed to press “hogan” against the cage a couple times. Lesrner used his girth and strength to get randy in an awkward position where he couldn’t defend himself intelligently. The heavy weight division isn’t stacked at all but to give “rick rude” an undeserved title shot is gay, mir all the way.
NO dana, why the hell is anderson silva fighting thales leites? PLEASE DANA, STOP BULLSH.ITTING WITH ANDERSON SILVA. Patrick Cote? What a fkn joke, these fights seriously are a waste of time for Anderson. He needs to be fighting names like GSP, BJ Penn, and even light heavyweights like rampage, liddell, wanderlei, it doesn’t matter he needs to fight people who ARE AS GOOD AS HE IS. Stop wasting time DANA
C-RO
I agree with you 100%. I am so hesitant to say that he’s the p4p best fighter in the world when, if you compare records, GSP has beaten up a who’s-who of folks, and Anderson’s only REAL competition has been Henderson. And in that, Hendo won that round 10-9. To me (and I’m ready to take the heat), Silva should ONLY be considered the best middleweight in UFC history.
ya c-ro there isnt much you can expect dana to do than to just throw people at him he just wont lose!
if lesnar fights mir the way he fought against couture, then he is going to win. im callin it right now. mir looked good with his striking against Nog but then again, last time i checked, if you beat up Nog, its not a big deal seeing how EVERYONES striking looks good against Nog. Hes just a zombie and gets back up. If Lesnar lands a big right hook….Mir is done… oh and to the guy who said Couture is washed up. HAHAHA okay keep dreamin dude. he had the title less than a year ago. if a fighter was holding a ufc title in the last year, im pretty sure he isnt washed up.
Sarcasm, learn to read. HAHAHA OK keep working on that hooked on phonics you’ll get it eventually.
well excuse me badass. i know man ive been tryin really hard to understand that hooked on phonics s***. i guess the secrets out. nice job. hahaha. and it didnt sound too sarcastic so chill the f*** out.
“By the way, what’s the excuse going to be this time when Lesnar wins?”
Just start reading that question over and over again. Seriously. I’m starting to think it’s typical MMA fans giving the sport a bad rep more than anything.
calm down killer. and just for the record. i hate lesnar.
Anon, glad you can make it to the MMA world from WWE. Enjoy your stay! cheers bro.
Lets just confirmm this for a sec ……. anderson silva is one of the best cage fighters in mma . I think there are a few guys who fight inside a ring that could give him a run . Mousasi is moving higher up my list day by day ……and quite possably manhoef could beat him up even inside the cage .I think silva would be unable to KO Mark Hunt Like melvin did even though he also can punch .
anderson would destroy cung le……cung is untested still all silva has to do is take him down and its over but i dont think he would need to anderson would tool cung le on the feet to…..cung isnt even gonna fight again till the end of 2009 what an awesome fighter/champion win the tile and dont defend it till over a year later
Dudes, give leites’s jitz some credit here. Everyone’s talking about silva, without mentioning his upcoming bout with leites, as if silva already won. I know i know, “silva should be fighting cote, okami, maia, sonnen NOT leites”. Well he is fighting him and, could possibly lose. Leites is a dude who isn’t going to even waste his time trading with silva and he’s going to do him like he did quarry take him to the ground and end it. As for lesnar, who cares who likes him or not, the dude is now the champ, so when are people going to start recognizing him as an “mma fighter”? after he beats mir, kongo and so on? For the record, i don’t like lesnar. All this ****ing about him is annoying now
i meant leites vs mcfredries not quarry. That was maia who did quarrry like that
thats #$@$in sick 2 title shots on our canada card!! they know the place is gonna rock.We had the biggest crowd 2 date! we love mma in canada,Cmon dana get it sanctioned in ontario?
can’t wait to watch this again im going mir via sub, lesnar is not guna come rushing in like last time but i see mir pulling gaurd and subbing lesnar in the first, mir looked good standing wiv nog but no way in hell is he guna wana stand wiv lesnar, i dont no frank mir but i bet he would say the same thing
I’m pulling for Lesnar to beat Mir, not because I like Lesnar necessarily, but because I really don’t like Mir, he’s up there with Kos and Tito for me. Not sure who I think will actually win, both have a chance, which is always a given in any fight, but I think how much Lesnar has improved, and which Frank Mir shows up will have the biggest impact. If the Mir that showed up against Lesnar the first time shows up again, he will lose, if the Mir that showed up against Nog shows up again, it will be interesting.
I liked Mir a lot more before I saw him on the show, KOS I have to admit has grown on me a little, and Tito not so much…
I think what I get out of these posts is this is going to be an intersting fight. Mir’s striking has changed my thoughts a bit, but its still hard to give him the win in the end…
To anyone saying cung lee would give silva a run for his $ is a damn moron. he hasnt proved anything but beat an overrated and injured frank shamrock. come on be real.
Im rooting for Lesnar in this one. I wasnt too impressed with the way Mir fought agaisnt Nog. Sure Mir did well with his striking but then again, look who he was fighting. Nog looked stale in that fight. He just wasnt there. We have a saying here that “A Race Horse looks fast goin past trees, but put him infront of other Race Horses and its just another Horse”. Mir looked great fighting someone who I thought looked 50 years old in that fight.
Sure you will get people saying that Mir never let Nog into the fight and that is a testiment to how well he did. But look at it on the other hand, Nog let Mir run all over him, Nog kept Mir in the fight by turing into a slow human punch bag.
I have no clue who will win and im not gonna predict either. But it is sooo easy for people to predict a sub from Mir and the same goes for predicting a KO from Brocks right hand.
I dont think Mir’s new found striking talents will do him any favours agaisnt Brock though. Remember the first fight? Lesnar dropped Mir with a half-assed jab for goodness sake. I would love to see Mir take a proper shot.
Brock vs mir is gonna b closer than u brock fans think.I like brock but im more of a King Kongo fan! Mir has a great chance of takin down the monster otherwise known as brock.
I feel brock learned from his mistake against his first match with mir and is hungry to avenge his loss. Especially now that mir is seriously calling him out. Lesnar is a confident dude and a smart dude who knows his strengths and his weaknesses, and i think he will surprise everyone and take mir down, control him, and pound him out like he did the first fight before mazzagati stood them up(which was BS if you ask me). But it’s hard to predict a winner. I want to see brock win so kongo can get a shot @ him.
If you think Mazzagati standing up Brock and Mir the first time around was a bad call then your a moron. Lesnar clearly was striking Mir in the back of the head repeatedly and showed no sign of stopping, or even worse, that what he was doing was against the rules.
Typically you would see a verbal warning from a ref and then a stand up but IMO Mazzagati made the right decision standing them up immediately due to Brocks complete disregard of the rules that are there to make sure both fighters survive the fight. Brock didn’t know what he was doing and was endangering the life of another fighter.
Brock has nobody to blame for that but himself. Had he a little more experience I don’t think he would have continued to land punches in the back of the head but would have held his punches and made sure to land them legally. I would doubt we will ever see Brock making that mistake again.
corn?..more like babies!
ya okay jenkins is on my level there’s basically no one here who can take on Anderson Silva and even last all three rounds. dude is a true warrior, I know thales leites earned a title shot but he’s lucky because Nate Marquardt got seriously cheated in that fight. Anyway, Anderson is going to yet again completely destroy Thales even though he’s pretty good…
You do mean 5 rounds, right? You know, that whole championship thing? Kind of negates your points when you don’t even know how long a fight is. Go back to fighterbashing.com
