Kendall Grove vs. Jason Day Added To UFC 96
Kendall Grove
Middleweights Kendall Grove and Jason Day will square off at UFC 96 on March 7th in Columbus, Ohio, according to 411 Mania.
Grove (10-4), the winner of The Ultimate Fighter 3 185-pound tournament, rebounded from back-to-back losses to Patrick Cote and Jorge Rivera with a split decision victory over Evan Tanner in his most-recent bout in June 2008. His previous UFC victories came against Ed Herman, Chris Price, and Alan Belcher.
Day (17-6) upset Alan Belcher in his UFC debut at UFC 83 last April but was most-recently defeated by Michael Bisping via first-round TKO at UFC 85 in June. He holds notable victories over Marcus Hicks, David Loiseau, and Jonathan Goulet while his losses include Patrick Cote and Victor Valimaki.
UFC 96, which does not yet have a main event, is also slated to feature Shane Carwin vs. Gabriel Gonzaga and Roger Huerta vs. Spencer Fisher. Former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell is expected to headline the card, though his opponent for the pay-per-view event has not yet been disclosed.

the only way chuck fights either rampage or rashad again is if he can put together wins against the likes vera matt hammil(both solid gatekeepers imo) then he can fight the loser of rashad v rampage but he aint gonna see that belt again atleast not for a long long long time

Alright, this card’s starting to look decent. Grove/Day should be no more than the opening fight, so we’re looking at 4 more nice matches. I would love to see Chuck fight Forrest, but that might be too soon. Of course, I’m just saying that cause I got my hands on some tickets for UFC 96 and am making the trip from Toronto. Carwin/Gonzaga is HUGE. Gonzaga’s a beast, and well, Carwin is Lesnar V2.0 (and I’m Lesnar fan #1). I can see Carwin getting a TKO; Gonzaga’s kind of stuborn and likes to trade.
Also, Mir came out pretty much unscahed against Nogeira, so wouldn’t that be a treat for us all to see that rematch at UFC 96 (Mir didn’t have a suspension, and Brock looks like he wants that fight NOW). I guess it’s just wishful thinking.

intresting comments about the ice man going about, when did they scrap the chuck vs jardine idea? vera vs chuck would be good but would make no sence to either fighter imo, maybe chuck vs hamill or even james irvin, yeah he got knocked out bad against silva but before that he knock alexender out in 8seconds
yea im likein the idea of james irvin vs chuck. that would be a good match up for chuck i think. i think think the chuck fans would like to see that fight.
pretty sure james irvine is still servin his suspension from after the silva fight… but that would be a good match.
I didn’t even know he had gotten suspended. My google searches to find out for how long have been unsuccessful.
I think he got a 9 month suspension which would make him eligible to return sometime in March, though it may not be until after UFC 96, plus the UFC is unlikely to book him to fight Chuck coming off a highly-watched knockout loss and a positive drug test.
It’s a fight I’d like to see but I don’t see it happening until mid-late 2009 at best.
Yawn….. Kendall Grove should have been let go by the UFC a long time ago. But he is a TUF winner so unfortunately for us we are stuck watching him for god knows how long. Please Day beat his ass and force them to can his ass.

Ok couple of things, I’ve always have thought that Chucks “return” match would be against Vera, but Jardine I can see as well… Chuck’s management doesn’t push for anything he is Chuck motherfff****in Liddell, and this business about he gets the winner of Evans/Quinton aint happening, loser could happen if Chuck wins two, Chuck needs a huge year to get back in the hunt but we shall see, I personally think he is 3 strong wins away from talk of a shot…. All in due time tho
Hendo/Franklin is @ 205 because Franklin said he was a LHW fighter now and Hendo needed to move up to face him… The TUF business is interesting to say the least, we have been assuming Bisbing is the UK coach blah blah blah and the winner of Hendo/Franklin will be North America coach but Franklin has stated he doesn’t want to do it, but also $$$ is $$$ and he would be open to the thought, the presumed fight would be @ 185 yet nothing is finalized the chances being that whomever coaches opposite Bisbing is going to destroy him ;-)

Forget Grove vs. Day, let’s get some fights that matter on this card. Neither one of these guys will be seeing Silva anytime soon, so it can’t be more than an oppening bout. The UFC really should step up and get some fights signed for this card. We’ve all been hearing Carwin vs. Gonzaga and a Chuck fight, but that’s all speculation. Don’t the fighters need some time to train for an opponent? It’s 2 months and 3 days away from UFC 96. Sherk claims to train 12 weeks for a fight. Or maybe it’s just Dana keeping everyone on the edge of their seats and in fight-ready shape all year round.

Typical like Forrest Griffin, Rashad Evans, Kenflo, Joe Daddy, Nate Quarry, and Matt Serra… who have all fought for (or in the case of kenflo going to fight for) titles after TUF? Or typical like Diego, Jardine, Gurgel, Kos, who have done well, but haven’t quite gotten over that title hump. Or typical like Mac Danzig and Kendall Grove, who have been less than impressive… I think you need to reevaluate your definition of “typical” since there are more TUF winners that have actually done something with their career than those that haven’t.
I realize Gurgel got cut, but he stuck around for a while with the UFC after TUF.
They already pulled the Liddell Jardine thing off the table I believe. Maybe Vera, Chuck *should* KO Vera, or maybe a lesser known can.
The coaches fight will probably be at 185, since that is the weight class on the show.
I don’t think Chuck would be getting a title shot if he beats Jardine, Vera, or even Wanderlei. Chuck needs to put together a handful of wins before he’ll be getting another shot.
