Alistair Overeem in Talks With UFC and Affliction
Heavyweight Alistair Overeem is in talks with the UFC and Affliction, according to a recent interview with the Strikeforce heavyweight champion by DreamFighters.com.
“Fedor and Lesnar [are] on my list, Mir as well. I am going on a holiday as I really trained hard whole 2008. Beginning in February I will start training again. My management is in negotiations now, I might visit the UFC in Ireland on January 17th (UFC 93),” said Overeem. “My management has been in contact with Affliction as well as the UFC, I am a fighter and I concentrate on fighting, I am very happy with Golden Glory.”
Though Overeem, who is also a veteran of PRIDE and DREAM, could continue to fight in various promotions, the lack of heavyweight depth in the UFC could lead to a lucrative contract for the former light heavyweight while Affliction would add Overeem to its stable of heavyweight fighters. Overeem has bulked up considerably over the past several years, tipping the scales in excess of 250 pounds for his recent kickboxing bout. Overeem was last in action on New Year’s Eve where he defeated top K-1 contender Badr Hari via first-round TKO in a kickboxing rules matchup.

Overeem “bulking” up is interesting to say the least yet he has been around for awhile and he was smaller when he was younger, what 25 pounds in 5 or 6 years possible, I’m not saying one way or the other….
If Overeem goes to the UFC that would be great most definately and a real possibility.. Yet I would assume that he would end~up with Affliction (they like to over pay employee’s) but he is also the StrikeForce champ soo it will beinteresting where he ends up but he has always done better in Japan
WOW this would be a major signing for the ufc if there were to get this man, do click on the link that shows how much he has bulked up over the past few years it is quite remarkable, do u think it is all natural? His stand up skills are really good and i can see him testing any one in that division surely overeem vs kongo headlining 97 or something like that, i think that would be a really good match up for number 1 contender spot, what you think? Hopefully ufc can sign his mini me melvin mannoef please ufc please
Some guys are genetically capable of putting on muscle, if they lift weights with the goal to put on muscle, and some guys are not. Based on his build, I would say that Overeem seems genetically capable of putting on the muscle. So the next thing, if he’s fighting at HW, he’s got no reason to not bulk up until he hits about 275-280. I would also like to point out that he did not fight for nearly a year from 2003 to 2004, and then seven months from 06 into 07. That’s a lot of time to focus on diet and weightlifting with the purpose of getting bigger. Also, he’s shown that he can get ready for fights in a short time frame, allowing him more time to work on his size and strength.
agree wit u fr if thats u? he is a beast & great striker!! some good match ups if he lands in the UFC 1st fight overeem vs. berry or dos santos, if he does well him & king kongo would b $%#@in sick
When heard Overeem possibly in the UFC the first matchup that came to my mind was Kongo. I agree with Canada that it would be a sick fight. Does anyone know what kind of ground game this guy has?
How old is overeem? I think pat barry looked awesome but he is far to small, any chance of him dropping to LW, dos santos is a very impressive prospect but i see him being wrapped in cotton wool like cain v and being fed opoinents like chris weelich n dan eversen you no what i mean. Overeem is deffo a contender and i think he wins 1 or deffo 2 fights hell get a title shot, does he have any ground game?
Some ground game, he’s got 17 wins by submission (some due to strikes). He also had taken CC down and was holding him there quite well in their fight.
holy sh*t thats some bulking up right there, he looks like a 170pound fighter on the first pic, also why was he fighting a kickboxing match? i dont think dana would let him do that? i want to see him in the ufc tho im with canadamuayguy him an kongo would be sick.
Rumor is that K~1 made it a kickboxin match against Hari because the wanted to punish him for what he did at the GP but I don’t buy into that… In North America the AC would never approve of it because at the time of the match Overeem was 1~1 in K~1 going against a guy with 78 kickboxing victories.. But Overeem is a MMA fighter and I don’t ever see the UFC putting on pure Kickboxing matches on their cards
In Japan they do stuff like that all the time. Just look at Bob Sapp and Rampage: both came in the game as MMA, then did a few kickboxing matches for some extra coin. Ironically though, both did quite well considering they were sent in to lose.
They wanted and expected Overeem to lose. Also look back at Rampage’s first fight in Pride: he was the first fighter that had to make a mandatory weight cut and Pride didn’t have weight classes at that time. Just sent him in to lose to their poster child Sakuraba. Also, Big Nog vs. Rico Rodriguez is another example of Japanese fight fixing. Nog got his ass handed to him the whole fight, but because Nog was headed to be their first heavyweight champ, they gave him the win. It happens all the time over there and even in the UFC (Bisbing/Hamill). Everyone thinks MMA is without controversy, but when the brand wants you to win, they will do everything they can to make you a star.
Japan fixing I can see. The Bisping/Hammil thing was a bad decision but the judges don’t work for the UFC.
ya he is tough but if he is not a ufc fighter yet he should not call out any1 just 4that dana should give him a tough 1st fight like oh GG or nog also i know this is off topic but i lost all respect when rashad called on forrest by tapping his jock! that was the most disrespectful thing ive seen in the cage that was a disgrace now he is champ! dont get me wrong he has become 1 tough dude & has my respect on that aspect but his cocky attitude has not changed since TUF show what do u guys think?
Dude, you really need to work on your grammar and punctuation. I don’t mean to be a douche, but it’s REAL bad.
That aside, Overeem will deal with many of UFC’s top stars. He almost beat Lidell when Dana shipped him over to Pride to win the light-heavyweight GP. That was Chuck in his prime. And if he drops back down to light-heavy, may God have mercy. He would deal with Rashad and anyone else in that division (but Dana needs more big guys, so that probably won’t happen). I can see Overeem beating most of the competition, but not Carwin, GG, Brock, or Mir. Big Nog’s done though, so that might be an easy first match (hey, i’m a huge Nogeira fan). His style is not a good fit for a cage when the opponent can push him against it and beat the crap out of him. In Pride he just got beat up until he was able to get an arm bar, and a lot of that is due to the restarts in the middle of the ring. It pains me to say, but this will be Nog’s last year as a fighter. The guy looks like he’s in his 50s.
You are new here don’t start jumping on peoples case about their grammar. Canada is a nice guy and new to the net. It’ll take him time to get used to typing and such. Also some uses are mobile and sometimes it’s a bit harder to gave proper grammar and spelling when you’re mobile.
In regards to Overeem dropping back to LHW, he weighed 250 at his last fight, 45 LBS us a lot to drop.
rashad is a poser!……tell that to forrest who got blasted and chuck liddell who finally woke up just in time for ufc 92, but anyways….ya overeem vs kongo is like a dream match at hw
heavyweight dream matchs
#1 overeem vs Kongo-best striking match ever
#2 Carwin vs Lesnar- match of the year quality/even match up, carwin is the only guy who is equal/bigger than lesnar
#3 monson vs gonzaga/dos santos-ground war
cant c the writing cuz the pics! i hope u were not talkin about my grammar? i can use it fine but dont care. this a mma site not school lmfao! but ya nog vs. randy b4 they both retire, great matchup i said they should set this up afta nog lost 2 mir.
tell me about it canadamuayguy i used to get bashed cos i never used the correct punctuation, dont no why it gets on people nerves so much, i understood every thing u said in ur post, people just like to seem smart i think lol
thanks 4 the back up i dont know how 2 setup my ****ing email?
Overeem is a juicer. Genetic predisposition towards muscularity or not, a man doing as much cardio as he must will not reach that size, that fast, that young without an edge. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but believing otherwise is a nonsense.
Ya Monson is an excellent ground fighter and could do bigger things in the UFC I’ve always wondered why he hasn’t found better succes in the cage..
Overeem would add a lot to the division imo, but I too don’t see him getting pass Fedor,Mir or Lesnar as of yet, put him against Kongo for the #1 contender spot after Mir v Lesnar II, because that would be brutal in so many ways.. Then put Randy v Big Nog for the next shot then the loser of Mir v Lesnar II against GG for the next spot, just my thoughts tho
F WAMMA
so you think GG will beat carwin?
T3, I forgot about the Carwin fight my bad, I was just throwing ideas about, good looking out… Um ya I dunno I think Carwin can ko GG but the ground GG is a different beast, I will have to do some thinking on this match to deliver my pick to you
How Texas goin for ya
Does Carwin have bigger hands then Lesnar??? Never heard that, I would like to see Carwin v Lesnar the might have to reenforce the cage for that bout… I do think speed wise Lesnar is faster but hand speed I would go with Carwin that would be a wonderful match tho
Yeah, Carwin has the biggest hands in the UFC. One size bigger than Lesnar I think.
So, can one assume that if his hands are that big, does the rest of his body follow suit???
actually rich never had a problem with it….onlt matt hughes and he is just as bad i dont know what he is talking about..matt hughes comes off as a dickkkkk to me
Awww see how far we’ve come in two days… And JohnBoy we just accepted it
all in jest GO GUNNERS
