Mirko Cro Cop Announces Plans For Retirement, Return to the UFC

Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic, in an interview with Fighters Only, has announced that he intends to retire in 2009, but expects to return to the UFC for one final fight before calling it quits.
“I believe that during 2009 I will fight three more times for Dream, then I hope for a farewell fight in the UFC,” said Cro Cop.
The former PRIDE and UFC heavyweight was last in action on New Year’s Eve, defeating Hong Man Choi via first-round TKO to extend his unbeaten streak to three-straight fights.
Filipovic will soon undergo surgery on his injured knee that is expected to prevent him from returning until the second-half of 2009.

Soo he will fight 4 times in 6(ish) months and one of those fights will be in the UFC… Um ok I don’t believe CC has had that many fights in such a short period of time since 2005 (I think) its also had to say what to make of this none of us really want to see our legends goo down hill and lose over and over again to “sub~par” talent, yet I don’t believe most are will to let go of CC and that’s even if he truly retires… The greats have a difficult time staying away from the sport they love and one time seemed to own or atleast when you heard Cro Cop was fight u knew that LHK was going to send someone to the canvas.. But he does have that wicked nice video game money comming in he’s good

6′ 6″ 162lbs(?) If so man I’m an inch (+) taller than you and like 40 pounds heavier, but I assume you might be ten years younger tho, but I still got speed and power haha

If Overeem goes to the UFC Cro Cop will face him last, I don’t think with Anderson Silva’s intentions of retiring as well that the would face eachother and for some reason CC doesn’t want to drop to LHW, but that match would be great.. A Kongo rematch for CC would be good or a GG rematch but I don’t see the UFC putting him in there. Against a contender if he only plans on fighting once, he would possibly actually be put on the undercard against Justin McCully or some shhhh cheers

cro cop vs anderson silva would be a magical match and i think there is a strong possibility of it happening silva has a few years left and wants big fights and this would be massive, cro cop wand silva or rampage would also be a good match ups. Does any one no what wieght he would fight at?
ya im a good learner! hominick is an amazing teacher and great 2look up 2 i started at the old gym team tompkins but shawn had allready went D. hendos camp he is the &%$#in man!! i did 2of his classes when he was down SICK!!! ya im 29 tall & long fast on my feet, good punches, bas rutten kicking power, hard knees & kenflo elbows but my setback is cardio cuz i love the chron!! if its cc last fight im not sure who they would throw in there cc vs. a.silva was just a sick matchup i thought
Man if we are the same age, and I’m in pretty damn good sahpe and I’m 218 how do u smoke and not gain weight 162 is skinny but hey if you can pull it off thatd good, I always thought Kendall Grove looked skinny til I droped to 185 the I was like damn I gots to eat hahaha when was your smoker again???
why doesn’t cro cop just man up and come back to the ufc and have one last go at becomeing champ, why bum it out in japan for his last year?

I’m from California, and I check kicks quite well thank you, I enjoy leg kicks and I think they are under used in MMA, ya I’m going to start cutting (I want to be healthier(ish) and toying with the idea of taking a fight but I dunno) slowly to get to a more reasonable weight of 200, there goes my nights of bourbon and filet/lobster owell..
i enjoy leg kicks & body/head 2 & people should use them more hard leg kicks end fights ya ide like 2b healthier but ive smoked chron since i was 15 ya if your gonna ponder u gotta make sacrifices thats why i have not tried 2 fight mma cuz when i put my mind 2 it i do it 2 the fullest so if i ask 4 a fight in mma i would wanna quit my job & train with hominick e-day if i quit chron i would have 2 fight 4sure maybe i will mma looks like it might legal in ontario soon
Ya that’s exactly it I can’t “quit” my business ya know.. But hey taking a (am) fight wouldn’t be too bad and actually be a bit of fun imo, smoker events aren’t the most clear cut legal thing in my county nor state soo I don’t need those problems in my life, but with the local MMA promotors and orgs like PFC they always are putting on AM events but I dunno we shall see I enjoy training too soo really I’m content, I don’t feel like struggling to make a dollar in the game..

its not legal here sooo there is really not much (am) events but ya i would fight 4free im not in it 4$ just the love & competition i love MUAY THAI ive always been dominate in every sport & always wanted 2 fight it was not around when i was a kid i know if i met shawn when i was young ide b a destroyer but lets talk now not then if u do start 2 train & fight u got lots of great camps up there in CALI!!

haha he kicked the **** out of hong man choi that was a funny fight, if anyone was the size of hong man choi they were destroy him that dude sucks at fighting his size it all that he uses.
And, he doesn’t even use that size well.
The idea of throwing him the deep end is a good one, yet to justify him fighting a top talent then retiring doesn’t benefit the business sid of things but if he gets beat down then retires it would be similar to the first time the Couture guy retired
Retire now. Why prolong the agony of your true fans, the one’s who know how you fought before you lost your passion for combat. Please give it up now.
The UFC will make Cro Cop the main event for sure and they will probably want to make it a blockbuster being CC last fight so maybe Couture vs CroCop add a Good #1 contenders match as the CO-main event and this card will be a PPV monster. Well thats my thoughts anyways.

Cro cop is legend!He needs a shot at gonzaga again but Overeem has been talkin trash about him since the last fight,that would be a great contest!I was at Ufc 93 last night and i’m nearly sure I saw overeem there.I think he will do a couture and retire but return but he needs a couple of wins in japan before a ufc return.Hopefully sooner rather than later!!!!
