Lightweight Matt Grice will return to the octagon on Feburary 7th against George Sotiropoulos at UFC Fight Night 17 in Tampa, Florida, according to MMA Weekly.

Grice, who took time off from fighting to graduate from the police academy, announced in November his intention to return to the octagon in early-2009. Plans for a tune-up bout outside of the UFC have apparently been scrapped as Grice and Sotiropoulos will both end extended layoffs with a 155-pound matchup on the evening’s preliminary card.

A four-time high school wrestling champion in Oklahoma and collegiate wrestler at the University of Oklahoma, Grice (9-1) was defeated by Terry Etim in his UFC debut via first-roud guillotine choke but rebounded to top Jason Black via split decision in the “Fight of the Night” at and even his UFC record at 1-1.

Sotiropoulos (9-2) is undefeated inside the octagon with a 2-0 record, earning victories over Billy Miles and Roman Mitichyan. He has not competed since April 2008 after an injury forced him to withdraw from a scheduled bout against Karo Parisyan at UFC 87 in August.
