Brandon Vera vs. Mike Patt Added to UFC 96
Brandon Vera
Former heavyweight contender Brandon Vera will go for his second victory at light heavyweight when he takes on Mike Patt at UFC 96 on March 7th in Columbus, Ohio.
Five Ounces of Pain first reported the matchup yesterday and MMAFrenzy.com has since confirmed the booking.
Vera (9-3) has won just once in his last four bouts, topping Reese Andy in his light heavyweight debut while losing heavyweight clashes with Tim Sylvia and Fabricio Werdum as well as a light heavyweight split decision to Keith Jardine.
A Bodog Fight veteran, Patt (12-3) lost his UFC debut to Tim Boetsch at UFC 88 in September via first-round TKO. He had previously won 8 of his last 9 fights.
The bout joins Shane Carwin vs. Gabriel Gonzaga (and potentially Chuck Liddell vs. Keith Jardine) on the rumored lineup for the March event.

I think they’ll put this on the undercard and hope for a quick finish so they can slip in onto the broadcast, though he does have quite the following and depending on how the rest of the card shapes up they might still put it on the main card. It’d be hard to ask fans to buy a fight with a guy who’s 1-3 in his last 4 and an opponent who is 0-1 in the UFC.

Mike Patt is a black belt in brazilian jiujitsu and an amateur kickboxing champ. He was matching equally with Tim Boetsch until Boetsch caught him with a right on the chin (then the ref stopped the match to Patt’s dislike).

i really dont like brandon vera but i think he just cant find his old skills yet like he had at hw….he needs to shut his big mouth and just start fighting…..this guy is a perfect example imo of a fighter who has the talent but wastes it with his big mouth just like tito….but hey maybe vera will look good in this fight…it took swick till his third fight at ww to look the same maybe vera will be the same

ya i noticed that earlier and it made me a bit pisssssy, take off Bonnar v Jones i mean who wouldnt want to see Fitch v Gono on the fightcard, the intro of Gono would be well awesome as usual… I understand ZUFFA can be a bit upset about the comments that were made by Fitch and/or Zinkin entertainment but damnit i enjoy watching him fight and how can u not get pumped for a Gono Fitch fight, hope that if enough people bitttch about this they might realize that i havent seen Bonnar fight in over a year and much rather would like to see Fitch than Bonnar any day of the week, bad call imo

I enjoy Gono always have, i seriously doubt the man is broke yet i definately can see how he could spend 8g’s on “a good time”…. I have no want to see the Bonnar fight nor the Karo fight compared to this fight… either way it will be entertaining and a success for both the fighters and the UFC in compairison to what they are putting up instead, perhaps there is a contract clause for Bonnar and Karo that states (unfortunately) that they have to be on the main card (just throwing it out there) because simply this makes little to no sense….

They should of had Vera up against Sokudjou or at least tim boetch instead of this tubby can. He didn’t land anything good when he fought boetch and he got knocked the hell out, Vera has to win this one but it would be funny to see him lose to a marshmallow

i agree with dana white the truth isnt the same since he changed weights. even if he gets a ko or a tko he will still have to work his way up a really tough light heavyweight division. i dont see him being in the ufc for too much longer

Brandon Vera totally fell off the wagon dude. Don’t know why he hasn’t performed normally, but it’s time to turn it around if you’re being placed with someone outisde of the top 10. I think it shouldn’t have been VERA VS LIDELL AND JARDINE VS LUIZ CANE

I’m looking forward to this fight. Patt had a bad night in his first UFC fight. Vera / Patt should be a good match up. Both like to stand and beat their opponents. Patt is a BJJ Black Belt, and just nasty on the ground. He’s also a hell of a stand up fighter. Vera has been around for a while, and the UFC is still looking for an avenue into the a show in the Philippines…so they need him to win. With two good months of training Patt is going to be hard to beat…but that is just my thoughts…
