Up-and-coming heavyweight prospect Cain Velasquez will return to the octagon at UFC Fight Night 17 on February 7th in Tampa, Florida against an opponent to-be-announced.

Velasquez revealed the bout in a recent video interview with Steve Cofield, which is embedded below.

A 2-Time All-American collegiate wrestler at Arizona State and a Junior College National Champion at Iowa Central, Velasquez has a 4-0 overall record, including a 2-0 mark in the UFC. After dispatching Brad Morris with strikes in the first-round of his UFC debut at UFC 83 in April, Velasquez defeated Jake O’Brien with strikes in just two-minutes and two-seconds at UFC Fight Night 14 in July. He has yet to have a fight go past the opening round, winning all four matchups via first-round TKO.

UFC Fight Night 17, which was recently shifted from Las Vegas to the USF Sun Dome on the campus of the University of South Florida, is slated to include Joe Lauzon vs. Hermes Franca, Mac Danzig vs. Josh Neer, Amir Sadollah vs. Nick Catone, and Rob Emerson vs. Kurt Pellegrino.

In the video, Velasquez not only talks about his fight at UFC Fight Night 17, for which an opponent has been selected but not disclosed, but also discusses the recent situation between the UFC and American Kickboxing Academy where he trains:

“I just let my managers handle it.”
So did he say he had nothing to do with it, and it would have been all there fault if he was out or in? That’s kinda dumb if you ask me, he at least needs to have an idea of what his managers are up to.

    Hi Justin

I always say they shouldn’t think on their own…He’s taking it a lil far though.

  • Justin says:

Yeah, A. Rod learned how bad it can be to “just let your manager handle it” with that whole World Series thing a few years ago.

hey i kno this is off subject but i havent seen anything on the wanderlei v rampage fight on here, i will make this gurentee right now that wanderlei is gonna win again, rampage is outta shape and his mind is not right 2 fight. if anyone has watched the interview on the ufc 92 website with rampage, you can hear him breathing like he is on one of those o2 machines after every sentence, and he isnt himself. plus with all the legal trouble he was in, i am 100% positive he did not prepare himself for this fight, and he wouldnt beat anyone the ufc puts him in the octagon with right now. the end

    • Justin says:

I have to say that’s probably quite a stretch to say that you guarantee he’s not ready for anyone and would lose to anyone. I do agree that he is likely to lose to Wandy, but there’s plenty of LHWs they could put in front of him he could beat; especially now that he’s training at a new camp with increased intensity and now has a nutritionist which he’s never had before.

      • dbiz says:

No no…he GUARANTEED it. You can’t UNGUARANTEE justin. That’s cheating.

      • devin says:

haha well im sorry i cant unguarentee it, but i wouldnt anyway, sorry this is off subject but i cant find anything on subject. i kno there are plenty of LHWs that he would beat right now but i dont think any of them are in the top 10. i understand he has a nutritionist, but so did ken shamrock and that didnt turn his career around… and this increased intensity thing, was this before or after dana white had 2 bail him outta jail twice?? i dont think he’s ready 4 someone of wanderlei’s calibur right now, they should’ve given him an easy fight, but im sure they didnt cause they didnt wanna have a repeat of chuck v jardine. he is not ready and i stick by my guarentee, so eat that dbiz lol

  • fr702 says:

  • gunslinger says:

no way velasques vs carwin should happen yet…its way to early the ufc is taking there time with these which is good…they should have done that with jake o brian he could have been really good had they not feed him herring and arlovski and cain in three fights..its like there picking on him :(

  • joshsmith says:
