Anderson Silva Off UFC 95, Likely To Fight in April at Light Heavyweight
UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva is unlikely to headline UFC 95 on February 21st in London as originally anticipated.
Silva’s manager, Ed Soares, confirmed to MMAJunkie.com late yesterday that the February event was too soon for Silva’s next fight and that he’s likely to return in April for a light heavyweight bout, though a fight at UFC 95 hasn’t been completely ruled out.
“As of right now, nothing has been 100 percent decided yet,” said Soares. “It looks like we’re looking to fight in April. We don’t know what can happen, but as of right now, I think we’re going to be fighting in April. It’s not decided yet, but we’d be interested in doing a 205-pound fight. As of right now, I’ll let the UFC announce when they plan on doing it. But as of right now, we’ve told (UFC President) Dana White we’d like to fight in April. But nothing has been confirmed either way.”

Hi Justin. That is all.
Huh?
oh yeah, hi justin
Fighting at 205 is B.S. He needs to defend the belt. I’m sure there is a few 185ers that want a chance at it.
Yushin? if he wins on the 27th he should get the title shot
Damian maia? he might be ready after another win or two
Bisping? is he ready?
Anyways there should be someone worthy to put him up against @ 185 lbs
Hi, Justin…
I like this. This probably assures enough time for the loser or either Rashad/Forrest or Rampage/Wanderlei enough time to recover and train for a fight against Anderson.
BTW…..Pat Miletich OWNED last night in his fight, it was ridiculuos
I would imagine that being in limbo about what weight class he would fight in, he probably stayed where he needs to be for 185, then the UFC wanted to throw him in at 205 for Feb. and he wanted a little more time to bulk up. I don’t blame him.
I think maybe they would throw someone in there that wouldnt be a “real hard” test in April, then the winner of Wand/Rampage, Forrest/Sugar ( I hate the name) would fight, then a fight towards the end of the year with Silva v. one of the four that are victirious. Thoughts?
bo,
There was a story on this site a short while ago that suggested that A. Silva would possibly fight the loser of one of those two fights. April is a good time frame for that to happen.
dont know if anyone saw this:
http://www.tmz.com/2008/12/12/ufcs-corey-hill-out-18-months-after-leg-break/
the real news is ADRENALINE MMA 2
Maybe he would fight the loser and if victorious, and say forrest is Victorious, maybe having that fight go off later in 09?
Not on my game this morning. If I was to scroll down on the home page here I would of already saw the hill story was already reported. Sorry guys! ill bounce back, rough night!
fixxer,
I would like for Kris to post something about the Adrenaline show, and I realize that you’re obviously biased as a big Miletich fan, but you’ve now made two attempts to hi-jack this thread to talk about that event. If you want to lobby Kris to post a story about that, you could use the messenger function, if you were registered with the site, or you could click the contact link at the bottom of the page and email him to get him to post the story.
hahahahah. short and sweet!
No worries fellas, I’ll be posting the Adrenaline results this afternoon when I’m done with school.
Can I say that I really think A. Silva has not faced top competition since he fought Franklin. Seriously
Ok maybe Dan Henderson, but I think coming off of a loss, and going from 205 to 185 a think Henderson wasn’t the best he’s ever been, but I think wins over lutter, Cote, James Irvin and a relatively new Nate Marquart, I’m just kinda bored of Anderson. I want to see him face guys like Okami, Bisping, rematch Marquart, and if he’s going to float between 185 and 205 give him top 205lb guys, he’s the MW champion, don’t feed him guys that aren’t even near title contention like Irvin, have him fight Jardine, or Rampage (instead of have rampage get knee ko’d for a third time to Wand). all I’m saying is i think Anderson Silva is too damn good to be giving a bunch of mediocre to slightly better than average fighters. He needs to be fighting the best they have to offer, because he is quite possibly the best in the UFC at the moment.
I can’t wait for GSP to beat Penn and then Alves to set up a GSP v. A. Silva matchup!!!
Wasn’t he just recently complaining that he wants to fight more often???
muaythai4life, I see what you are saying, but you can’t have Silva going from fighting the best at 205 to fighting the best at 170 without a lot of time to adjust to that weight range. The UFC needs him to pick a weight class and stick with it. This 6 months off crap needs to stop, and I don’t just mean Silva.
no i see GSP coming UP to 185 to fight silva, Silva wont drop to 170 to face GSP. Plus if GSP wants that fight then it’s his responsability to come up to Silva’s weight.
I am not mistaken didnt Dana say there was no way GSP would face Silva, at all? I might be wrong on that, but I thought he said that in a press conference.
The statement that stepping up in competition @ 185 then putting the names Okami and Bisbing then someone he beat the hell out of ie Nate is kinda off imo… He is just better than everyone in the MW division and the division isn’t bad in the UFC… He is just that much better than everyone.. The UFC asked him to fight Irvin on July 19th its not like floating divisions was his idea.
nah Dana said that there is no way Penn is facing Silva, he said he doesn’t have the frame for 185. GSP and Silva are destined to face each other. I don’t see anyone at 170 to beat GSP, and I expect him to dominate both Penn and Alves, Silva will be a whole other story.
I know they asked him to take that fight, and Silva sees 205 as his team mate Machida’s division, so he doesn’t really want to put himself in title contention there. But I want to see Silva challenged, Cote didn’t even come close to that. And Thales Leites won’t either.
The boy should just get back into the ring and fight as soon as possible considering his last performance was very lack-luster. I think the longer he spends away from the Octagon the smaller the gap gets between him and the other fighters. Not that anyone is pressing him to take his belt, but the guy needs to be a fighting champion.
James,
re: “the boy”
Anderson Silva is in his mid thirties, hardly qualifies for a “boy”.
muaythai,
You’re right about Dana saying Penn wouldn’t face Silva. But not sure about GSP beating Penn.
FR,
I agree.
@James, let’s talk about fighting champs in a comparison between Anderson Silva and everyones favorite yours and mine GSP
GSP won the interim title 12/29/2007, he has fought twice since that spectacular win over Hughes.. Since his last loss 4/7/2007 he has fought 4 times.. Since his split decision win over BJ Penn 3/4/2006 GSP has fought 7 times being 6~1 in that strecth
Anderson Silva won the MW belt on 10/14/2006 he has defended it 5 times fought 6 times since winning the belt, he as well has fought 8 times since 6/28/2006 (Leben) going 8~0
Soo to pretty much finish up here I would call Anderson Silva a fighting Champ also he is the only Champ that has been defending his belt against all comers that UFC has given him
*Confuctious this is a long one please don’t read*
Sherk lost his via needle poke, Penn choked out Daddy then licked blood and became the best eva
GSP got ko’d by a midget, then Serra was trying to get some lucky charms off the top of the fridge hurt his back.. GSP saves the new year by attempting to rip off Hughes’ arm, defends belt twice in awesome fashion.
Silva, officially makes the MW division his biatch with knees punches and subs, hasn’t lost hell even went and ko’d a Sandman in the process
Chuck blocks Page’s punch with face loses title. Page decides to grapple for 25minutes wins PRIDE belt too, Forrest out points Page, Page tries to run from da 5 0 loses, Chuck goes to sleep again (tired it happens) so now its Sugar v Forrest for the title
Randy no likey Dana, Big Nog no likey Timmeehhh = interim
Randy likey Dana, Dana likey Randy = champ is back.. Mir hugs Lesnar’s leg = Mir v Big Nog but wait Lesnar beats Herring and gets title shot
Looks like Dana not really likely Randy after all, Lesnar new Champ kinda Big Nog v Mir for the other half champ
Silva should be defending his title instead of fighting @ lhw. The mw division sucked so much ass for the longest time, but now there have emerged some worthy challengers. Damian Maia,Thales leites,Dan henderson, and Nate Marquardt are all dudes who can challenege or soon be ready to challenge for the title. I think after Hendo makes my dreams come true and completely decapitates BISPING, he should get his shot.
I also, heard that leites was next in line for a shot.
Jazzkok,
So, what you’re saying is that Silva should wait around for a year, so he can fight Henderson, assuming Henderson beats Franklin, and Bisping. Maia is good, but needs a win over a higher ranked MW. Leites I just don’t think deserves a title shot, he beat drew McFedries in his last fight, whoopty freakin do. Marquardt got handled the last time he fought him. Silva just defended his title, and now the UFC wants him to fight at 205, he’s doing what the boss says.
booooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! i want silva now!! let him fight he is going to retire sooon! come on joe silva give him the dean of mean
That’s the problem Justin…No one thinks anyone is worthy of a title shot against Silva, but everyone wants Silva to fight. The result is, guys that you think need more time will fight Silva. Case in point, Leites,
I think it’s an intriguing match up if it goes to the ground. Unfortunately, it will likely go to the ground ONLY when Leites is unconscious. But, if Silva is going to defend the title he will have to defend it against people that are deemed “unworthy” even if they actually are the best available competitor.
dbiz,
Valid point. I think that if Silva is going to defend at MW he should fight Okami (instead of Okami fighting Lister, but if Okami defeats Lister he just makes his argument stronger). On the same card have Maia fight Marquardt, the winner of Maia v. Marquardt gets the next shot at Silva. I guess the argument for Leites is that he beat Marquardt, but considering it was b/c of points being taken away from Marquardt, its hard to argue that. Leites should be the one taking on the Lister.
On another note, it’s frustrating that its going to be 6-8 months before Franklin/Henderson v. Bisping, which would presumably be a number one contender fight. Making it nearly a year since Bisping’s last fight, and IMO delaying a possible rematch with Henderson that should happen. Also, I think its dumb that Franklin v. Henderson is at 205 fighting for the chance to be the opposing MW coach, leading to a number one contender fight at MW, which could potentially lead to Franklin getting beat down by Silva 3.
This is one busy guy, currently on a tour here throughout Canada, he gives and gives to the fans and the sport and i cant complain about him at all. I’m honestly more upset about BJ getting a WW title shot and not sticking to LW to defend his title, it stretches things out too thin, there should be some kind of stipulations in place, or maybe there are and im not aware of them.
Franklin stated that he would only fight Hendo @ 205, but I understand the points being made DbiZ I agree with you as well
Stipulations are that GSP loses he isn’t the WW champ, if Penn loses he is still the LW champ
imo people need to stop worrying about whos guna fight bj next, whos guna fight gsp next, whys this whys that whos getting laid whos on crack yadda yadda yadda, people need to be pumped that 2 of the worlds best p4p fighters are guna clash in jan, i for one can not wait for this fight its guna be sick and the winner will have the right to be called no1 p4p fighter, i think bj is guna win via tko in the 2nd
Man anderson needs to finish up with the competition in the middle weight division.
He still has demian maia, yushin okami, patrick cote and thales leites.
They need to put these four in a tournament or if they dont do that have cote v.s yushin to see who would have done better agianst anderson.
Thales leites even says he wouldnt mind fighting maia.
to everyone who is saying ” this gives the one of the losers of the rampage/wand forrest/evans enought time to train for anderson”
do you realize what u just said? 4 months isnt enought time to train for anderson silva. i dont care even if your randy couture dude hahaha
you need a LONG ass time to be prepared for andeson
p.s. props to miletich
I have been here on this site longer than most….I wasnt trying to hi-jack….me and Kris got and understanding
Yeah, no worries. Justin was just trying to keep the comments from going too off topic but I was a bit slow in getting the results posted and can understand your eagerness in wanting to talk about them.
so………after all this(cuz i have my ufc 95 ticket) who do u think will headline ufc 95.
i hear chuck might(but who?)
who will…..thats all i want to know….why ufc have u done this so early and left it so long to announce the headline
any info wud be great as im goin out my head waitin for the ufc to make up there mind
fixxer,
I realize you’ve been around here longer than most, maybe even longer than me. And I was with you, I wanted Kris to post a story about that event. There’s just other options of how to contact Kris about that stuff, and I felt it was a little disrespectful to the rest of the commentators to say “the real news is…”
Kris you were slow though
Damn finals are taking up all my free time haha. Only one more week til I’m on break and can get to work on the site more frequently.
does this mean no 1 knows anything about ufc 95……dam you ufc
Yeah, I understand about the finals, Kris. I knew it was about that time…another part of the reason I was trying to get him to quit sweating you.
“his percision is um really percise”
“His eye is leaking like a faucet rightnow”
Great quotes from Anderson Silva v James Irvin
forrest vs. spider would be the best match, hopefully rashad wins.
Doesn’t matter who wins though wandi will kill win in title match.
Then….wandi vs machida (SWEET!)
Would absolutely love to see an agressive belfort vs. spider in dream match!
griffin, rampage, wandy, rashad? anderson wont fight those guys…dana white isnt going to let anderson lose. his last 205 fight…james irvin? are u serious? he will get a OK fighter and kill him
