Report: Liddell Must Beat Jardine, Another Opponent To Receive Title Bout

Former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Chuck Liddell will not be in another match for the light heavyweight title until he beats Keith Jardine at UFC 76 as well as another opponent. The news comes directly from UFC President Dana White himself who delivered the news through Brawl Sports:

“Chuck would have to win one more fight. I think Chuck has to win two fights in a row and then, yeah, he’s back in the mix again. He got knocked out in a minute 30 in the first round (in his last fight). No matter how great he is, I’d like to see him win a couple of fights and then come back and fight for the title again.”

Perhaps the biggest concern among UFC fans was having Liddell rushed back into a title fight, specifically against Quinton “Rampage” Jackson who has defeated Liddell on two occasions. It appears the UFC will take a cautious approach with their highly marketable fighter waiting at least 2 fights before putting Liddell into a bout for the light heavyweight title.

Several days ago Dana White announced that the UFC had signed former PRIDE Champion Wanderlei Silva. Silva has also gone on the record stating he anticipates making his UFC debut in December. At this point it seems highly likely that the UFC may make the most talked about matchup in MMA history between Liddell and Silva happen at the UFC’s December 29th card in Las Vegas.

I am a huge fan of Chuck and I think he is a great ambassador for the MMA and UFC, but lets face it his last fight against Rampage was a huge let down, I feel there should be no easy route to another title shot and the attraction of the UFC would start to decline if every other fight you were allowed to have another title shot. Chuck has to prove himself again. I like most UFC fans would love to see chuck take on Wanderlei Silva that fight would definitely be one for the diaries, but lets see how he gets on against Keith Jardine.

Hmmm… I'd like to see him get through winner of Shogun vs Griffin and then fight Wanderlei then I'm cool with him getting a shot.
