Roger Huerta
Lightweight Roger Huerta (25-2) and the UFC have come to terms on a new contract that will see the popular lightweight contender return to action in March.
“El Matador” has inked a new, five-fight deal with the promotion, according to MMA Weekly.
A top contender in the UFC’s 155-pound division, Huerta fell out of title contention in August with a unanimous decision loss to Kenny Florian at UFC 87 and simultaneously fell out of the UFC’s good graces as Huerta’s rise in popularity led him to reportedly demand a contract more lucrative than UFC champion BJ Penn.
The two sides now appear to have resolved their issues and Huerta will return to the Octagon in March, likely at UFC 96 in Columbus, Ohio, and will look to work his way back into title contention against an opponent to-be-announced.

Why do you guys love Roger Huerta so much? The man is a one trick pony (Brawling Expert). He had no answer for Florian except a superman punch, dude seems very limited. Where do you rank him among UFC Lightweights?
I put him below Guida, around Mac Danzig area. I know he beat Guida, but we all saw the fight, he got dominated for all but 1 minute, it was a gutsy comeback, but Guida would never lose to that tactic again.
Huerta has good wrestling and boxing. Sure, the only name he has beaten was Clay Guida and he got dominated for most of that fight, but Huerta also has a ton of heart. I’d like to continue to see him fight against top competition. I’d like to see a bout with Tyson Griffin.

I can’t answer as to why some guys are huge Huerta fans, I think he’s a good fighter, with a good record and a lot of potential. I also see his value to the UFC as a marketable Hispanic fighter. I personally wouldn’t necessarily consider myself a “fan” of Huerta, but I would rather see him with the UFC than with someone else.
Yay Huerta is back in the game, he is entertaing imo and its nice to see him sign with the UFC again…
hat’s good news. Huerta needs to go back and fight the way he normally does. Against florian he looked pathetic trying to be “technical”. He must have attempted like 50 superman punches(none landed). He’s a great fighter and i think he can work on some stuff but can challenge for the title in the future.

For me it’s a hispanic thing. Plus he’s 22-2-1, against some very game opposition. Not sure if you recal but he beat Guida so how you rate him below doesn’t make sense. As for KenFlo, in case you haven’t noticed there aren’t many fighters out there that have an answer for him.
He’s a good looking, well rounded, hispanic fighter with an attitude. What’s not to like???

Huerta is talented and young, the thing that got me is before the KenFlo fight (in which I picked Huerta to win) he was stating in FIGHT! magazine that he was worth BJ Penn $$$ and if the UFC wasn’t going to pay him there was other oppritunities out there for him to make that type of $$ which he was clearly mistaken on a little thing called reality… Anyways he is talented and young has a great record and should rebound and shake things up soon..

id would say that sammy from the block is out of his damn mind., Who else would you think is in title contention? Huerta is one of the best out there and he proved it by doing a hell of allot better than joe daddy did. Man do your research and than say huerta is non worthy. tha man is non stop in every fight and one of the best fighters to watch, so dont diss him because you will see him kick some ass soon.
