Hermes Franca, who tested positive for steroids following his UFC 73 title match against Sean Sherk, has had his appeal denied. Franca received a one year suspension as well as a $2500 fine as a result of the test. The appeal was seeking a reduced punishment but the initial suspension, which runs until July 5, 2008, was upheld. He will be able to obtain a corner-man license and the suspension will not affect his ability to corner fighters in California.
Lightweight Champion Sean Sherk and former UFC fighter Phil Baroni were both officially granted extensions to their appeal delaying their hearing until October.

That really does say alot about how the UFC is dealing with steroids. Most(along with myself) were expecting a lighter sentance to be granted to Franca do to his honesty,or lack of denial. I hope Dana doesn't take it easy on "the Moneyshark" Sherk because of his personal investment and friendship. Being the first champ testing positive since the "spotlight" has focused on the sport, his punishment should be the maximum. Stipped of the title, suspended absolutly(no fights in any orginization), and the maximum fine. I hope Dana White surfs the web, and really listens to the fans. It has nothing to do with a like or dislike of Sherk, it's about the future of the sport.
I quite agree with most of what your saying, steroids has no place in the UFC and if proved guilty the sentence has to be tough to try to stamp out steroid abuse within the sport. and send out the message that it will not be tolerated in any Way/ Shape or form. as the younger fans who look up to the Sean Sherks of the world as a role model need to be educated and informed that steroids is not the answer.
