Lightweights Nate Diaz and Clay Guida are set to square off at UFC 94 on January 31st in Las Vegas, according to GracieFighter.com.

Diaz and Guida were originally booked to fight this year but a foot injury suffered by Guida resulted in the matchup being pushed back to the UFC 94 main card, which is headlined by Georges St-Pierre vs. BJ Penn.

Diaz, a cast member on The Ultimate Fighter 5, captured the reality series’ lightweight tournament crown in mid-2007 with a victory over Manny Gamburyan. After winning his next three-straight fights over Junior Assuncao, Alvin Robinson, and Kurt Pellegrino all via submission, Diaz bested Josh Neer at UFC Fight Night 15 in September via split decision.

Among the most popular lightweights for his all out fighting style, Guida, a former Strikeforce lightweight champion, went just 2-3 in his first five fights inside the octagon. However, most-recently “The Carpenter” has rebounded to win back-to-back fights over Mac Danzig and Samy Schiavo.

  • UFC fan says:

yes hope guida wins i think hes gonna win but i know diaz will eventually be champ when hes like 26

  • Ed says:

I like both fighters, I think Nate might be in a little over his head here…

  • Justin says:

I like Guida much more than Diaz, hope he wins, and think he will. I think this fight will look similar to the Guida v. Danzig fight, though Diaz will have Guida in trouble a few more times than Danzig did.

  • ufcmanz says:

I’ll take Diaz in this one ,Wrestling Guida vs BBJ Diaz ,Diaz will control the action on the ground from the bottom and I’d say the possibles for Diaz to win is Split/Unanimous decision or Submission If Diaz is on he submits Guida , if hes off he wins by decision

  • JOHNBOY says:

sweet fight the one all of us on here wanted, maybe joe silva comes on this site lol i got nate winning this one either by decicion of sub in the 3rd, should be a great fight tho winner of this gets moved up into the fight for number1 contendership imo

  • JOHNBOY says:

and nev-o how do u get bisping runs away? maybe moves out the wat an comes back with a punch but thats just smart unlike u my friend who by the sounds of it wants him to just stand still and get hit, mmmmmm very good idea jackass

  • Aaron says:

This fight will go 3 rounds. This could be a split again for Diaz.

  • timcat says:

I like Diaz in this one, but if he’s not careful Guida will knock his block off. Looks like a great fight on paper, we will see.

  • danny boy says:

i have to say, if it goes all three guida wins the decision, but diaz has great jits, especially great triangles, and guida might get caught.

decision-guida or diaz by submission round 2

  • War Guida! I think he’ll be able to control the pace and hopefully his jits skills are good enough he can avoid submissions when he’s on top.

  • Jason says:

Damn, I was excited for UFC 92 but UFC 94 is getting better and better. They got GSP vs. Penn 2, Thiago Silva vs Machida, Bones Jones vs. Bonner, Fitch vs Gono, and now they add Diaz vs Guida, UFC 94 is gonna be great. Now all the UFC needs to do is make UFC 93 free and everything will be great.

  • danny boy says:

i agree with jason, 94 is even better than 92, while i am excited to see who wins between hendo and rich, i might not even order 93, but the gsp penn fight is bigger than any fight on the 92 card, plus lyoto might be champion one day

  • sgtrocknroll says:

I hope Guida wins. The Diaz brothers are pure trash.

  • fr702 says:

Guida is a f~ing machine, Diaz might get him into a sub but I think that Guida will win this fight either by tko or ud, this match is going to exciting forsure

  • Justin says:

    nev-o,
that’s the second post from you about Bisping, when Bisping hasn’t been mentioned on this site in a Mod Post for at least week…if all you want to do is be trolly and bash Bisping, take it elsewhere.

  • Kris Karkoski says:

I deleted nev-o’s comments as they were off topic and clear fighter bashing.

nev-o – I’m personally moderating all of your comments before they’ll appear on the site. Clean up your act and don’t bash fighters or you will be permanently banned. Disliking a fighter and criticizing or discussing them intelligently is fine, but the posts about Bisping are a perfect example of what we don’t tolerate.

  • Vinz C1ortho says:

Diaz is a great fighter.. mission control anyone?

I love both these guys.. it’s always refreshing watching someone string submission attempts together like a stand up fighter throws combos.. the kid is slick.

Still being slick dosn’t change the fact he has to get Guida on the ground to sub him. Then again I seem to remember Nick Diaz showing up for a fight one time when nobody thought he could throw them.. and just raping wit his standup..

Maybe Nate has learned some boxing skilllllz ?

  • dbiz says:

I find myself agreeing with Vinz. If Guida can keep it on the feet or at least minimize the ground time, he takes it decision, if not KO/TKO. If it goes to the ground though, he’s still got a chance. One good punch with Diaz’s head on the mat and it’s lights out.

  • RyanMoney says:

I hope Guida wins. That guy can go out there and be totally awesome and get robbed last minute. I was there when he got robbed in Ireland and I’m still getting over Huerta Subbin him! I well thought he had that one in the bag. Look how lucky Diaz got in the TUF final, I hope this isn’t a match of luck.

  • Eye-Rhyme says:

    Guida will easily over-power nate…
but i think he will become too anxious and nate is going to catch him slipping….

  • justin says:

    Vinz,
Nate is a good fighter, but I don’t like him as a person. I do think Guida will beat him though, and I like Guida as a person better.

  • surfingk5 says:

I love the Diaz bros!!! I have to go with nate just cuz he’s going to suprise you.

He improves every time you see him. It’s tough cause yet again I’m a fan of both fighters.

Yes Guida is exciting to watch and he has the hair and stuff. But Nate I believe is just a better fighter overall. I believe in his method of stand up, he takes a beating and his ground game is crazy.

Nate is young enough he will fight his fight. Guida will come in with a game plan and slip.

This will be an exiting fight…duh…look who’s fighting. Great match up.

  • Justin says:

Agreed, surfing, will for sure be a great fight.

  • nyy_fan25 says:

ufc always havin them great ppv events

  • nev-o says:

    explain intelligent
? everyone cant love all the same fighters i have been on this website for months and i have seen worse. put two and two together its always the same and this website is too there are other web sites. your the same by telling me in wrong? let me know if you want to ban me! have a great day! micheal bisiping is the man hahahaha (NOT) is that good enough

  • Kris Karkoski says:

I’m happy to explain our commenting policy. One rule is to, generally, stay on the topic of the post. Commenting on a post about Nate Diaz and Clay Guida fighting and saying “Bisping sucks” or something of the like is unacceptable. If, however, there’s a post about middleweights, for example, and you’d like to bring up Bisping as a future opponent or something like that that’s fine.

By intelligent I mean saying something like “Bisping is over-rated because he hasn’t fought any top middleweights” or “Bisping needs to improve his ground game” or something like that. There’s nothing wrong with voicing a negative opinion about a fighter as that’s what makes the comments interesting, but we’d like to see it done in a more respectful manner that’s all.

Hopefully that clears things up a bit.

  • hamsterwheel1307 says:

This fight is going to be great. I’m kinda having a money problem so i have to choose between ufc 93 or 94….hmmmm thats an easy one now. Ufc 93 should be free, why are they making us pay for it i thought out of country ones in europe r free?

  • RJA says:

Looking foward to this fight.I can’t stand either one of the diaz brothers, even though there ground game is 2nd to none.I do think guida will be way to overwelming though, his relentless pace is to much for most, and i think it’s a perfect matchup for him.

  • Vinz C1ortho says:

Yeah I get how people don’t like the Diaz bros because of how they carry themselves.. personally I find it hilarious and love them.. but it’s def a love/hate and nowhere in between with those two.. sort of like Tito.. lawl :D

  • brandongk4 says:

Nate should be able to win this fight if it stays standing as he has great boxing and super long reach. On the ground he’s way more dangerous. Clay’s only hope for this fight is a decision. He has zero chance of finishing Diaz. This is a bad fight for Guida. In my opinion Nate is a finisher and should be able to put him away.

  • mikew says:

I will never miss a Clay Guida fight, he could be p4p the most bang for your buck guy out there. Always an honest full out effort , in fact his over the top aggressiveness is what sometimes lands him in bad positions. Against Huerta i though he was winning until he shot in too aggressively and that led to him losing. Nate is a guy who can make you pay for mistakes especially on his back, and he will be on his back in this fight for sure. Diaz has a calm demeanour and is cool and calculated, we’ll see how he does against a Tasmanian Devil going 100 mph.

  • RJA says:

Good point bradon and mikew,i guess guida would be at a disadvantage because of his recklessness.I’m just wishfull thinking, and hopeing that that same energy will come in to play for guida getting out of trouble aswell.I picture it somewhat like when nick diaz fought diego sanchez. He just seemed to completely overwhelm him with his pace.It wouldn’t surprise me if any one of these scenerios played out.

  • Vinz C1ortho says:

Nate is always a little slow out of the gate.. marginally winning or loosing the first rounds of most of his fights IMO..

Guida could easily come out and get the best of Nate before he gets a chance to wake up and realize he’s getting his ass kicked :D

  • fr702 says:

“Nate has great boxing”?? Really I tend to disagree with that, jitz yes boxing ehh not so much..

  • muaythai4life says:

too many posts to serf through, so heres me take…

Guida is extremely under-rated. Diaz is no joke for sure, but I think Diaz isn’t going to be able to handle the pace that Guida sets. ALL of Guida’s fights are non-stop action and he’s put a lot of fighters to the test. His split-decision loss to Tyson Griffin is a great example, and he was beating Roger Huerta all the way until he got caught with that great punch in the third. I think Clay overwhelms Nate in this fight. Nate needs to stop fighting exactly like his older brother. They have the same exact approach to striking, which is horrid. Nate I believe has better MMA jits than his brother because of his transitions, but if Clay wants to keep this standing he can, Nate won’t out wrestle him, and if Clay wants to take this fight to the ground he can, and he does have really good BJJ defense.

    Clay – UD

  • surfingk5 says:

I don’t know that his boxing is “great”. I think their method makes sense. A ton of shots on target as aposed to power.

  • SAM Bronx, NY says:

I think this matchup is a favorable one for Diaz, he is going to submit the always agressive, rarely cautious Guida. Guida has some power, but I think Diaz’ combo boxing is going to force Guida to take him down and from there Nate is going to lock onto a limb, raise his arms in style before he starts to make that limb uncomfortable.

  • Adam says:

    Clay has this…….

  • fatcity says:

diaz brothers are in my hometown,so i have to like them, this is a very interesting fight, they both have great cardio.i think guida is going to go ahead and charge diaz and see what he gets,i think diaz will eventually take it to the ground.i think it will be a ground match mostly for 3 rds.hopefully diaz comes out the winner.
