Kimbo Slice Arrives in Japan
Controversial heavyweight Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson arrived in Japan today for his role as a guest commentator for HDNet’s broadcast of FiELDS K-1 WGP 2008 Final.
The event takes place at the Yokohama Arena in Yokohama, Japan and is slated to air on HDNet tomorrow, Saturday December 6th, beginning at 3am ET.
The eight-man tournament’s opening round features Peter Aerts vs. Badr Hari, Errol Zimmerman vs. Ewerton Teixeria, Gokhan Saki vs. Ruslan Karaev, and Remy Bonjasky vs. Jerome LeBanner. Hong Man Choi vs. Ray Sefo and Paul Slowinski vs. Melvin Manhoef are also slated for the card.
K-1 uses standup techniques from a variety of disciplines, but does not involve ground fighting.
Slice has reportedly been in negotiations with K-1 for a future fight in Japan and may announce his signing during tomorrow’s broadcast.

I’m looking for my give-a-sh*t, but I keep getting distracted by the Lifetime channel.
Should be a good show ……. Kimbo may do better at the K-1 style than regular mma . Then again maybe not ..but it doesnt hurt to try . I’ll giv him props for not giving up .

Him announcing doesn’t sound good, but japan is a better place for him to fight. Lots of good freak show matches for him there. He could fight butter bean, bob sapp, and a laundry list of other side shows. And us fans don’t have to hate him for all the BS hype he was getting.
If I dont post here in the next couple days guys dont worry about it just…if any of you guys can find it in your hearts just pray for my friend will and me. I am in a complete breakdown right now I almost lost my best friend will who ive known since the 6th grade in a car crash today so if you guys can any prays would be appreciated – thanks Gunslinger(Lucas)

i dont think kimbo will do well with guys who have great footwork, refs who break things up and more glove padding.
again, i think he was improving as a B level MMA fighter and i give him respect for that – and think he should keep developing there.
fight guys at his level and he’ll win some lose some and keep improving.

Real sorry to hear what your going through, my prayers are with you and your bud.
As for Kimbo, i cant see why he would do any better against the best kickboxers in the world than he did in MMA. I would like to see him fight Bob Sapp though, that would be intense for about 30 seconds then there would be a lot of gasping for air and clinching.Keep in mind too that some K1 fighters have the most amazing kicks that Kimbo has never seen the like of, purely a side show guy with maybe some punching power.

In regards to Kimbo, not sure if this is a good or bad move for him to fight for K1, but him fighting in Japan is good for me because then I have to hear less about him.
I just look at it this way … Kimbo took alot of crap when he lost and most would have hung the gloves up . He still wants to do his thing and thats cool by me . Its not his fault that the elite guys over did it .
Dr. Doom- I completely agree with you that Elite over did it with him. I will give him a lil credit for trying though but I don’t see him winning much in Japan. Nor do I see him ever getting the money he made with Elite either, I mean christ he made more than 10X what Torres made in one fight. Oh well Japan will find a use for him.
I can’t believe elite actually called him the tiger woods of mma. Funniest **** ever. Japan will love this dude win or lose. Good point Chris L on his pay vs Torres. A pound for pound best getting 10x less that kimbo is crazy.

Did anyone catch the K-1 last night ? WOW!!!! GOOD FIGHTS !!! I enjoyed the card …. to bad it was on so late (1 am start here ) but was worth staying up .
Aerts was a beast back in the day, Lebanner and Bonjasky fight should be a war. If Kimbo pays attention he could learn something from those 2.

You’re welcome to be a member of the community if you want to discuss MMA, but this is not the appropriate place to bash anyone for any beliefs they hold in regards to religion, the presence of a higher power, and/or which higher power they happen to believe in, if they do in fact believe in a higher power. I like it so far but it doesn’t get along with all your new features, doesn’t work with the message feature. Really just now starting to play with it. Just got it today and until the last half hour my wife had played with it more than me.
To be honest I haven’t tested the new features on my iphone. There’s enough bugs to fix in regular browsers but I’ll do my best to fix those issues when I can.

I understand, definitely want to get it working right on regular browsers before you worry with the mobile stuff. Besides it may be an unsupported script that you can’t do anything about.
watching the K-1 again right now . kimbo is doing a decent job as a guest announcer . just as good as hoost was . I got new respect for K-1 .i have enjoyed every fight but wont ruin the ending for those who havent seen it yet . good , good fights . Want to see more for sure .
Yeah, definitely not a priority making all the features mobile compatible, though I did find a work around that I’ll message you about.
Also, I’m making progress on the “groups not displaying” issue but I’m not sure if it’ll be fixed tonight as I’m putting my daughter to sleep now then watching De La Hoya – Pacquiao haha.

Yeah Chris, that fight was terrible for De La Hoya. I hope Oscar fights again just to go out of the sport on a slightly better note because it’d be hard to have another performance as worse as his was tonight.
Just read a couple articles on De La Hoya. Wow, sad really. One fight too many for sure. It’s too bad they have to do this to themselves. But, they made a truck load of money.
I did my best to not Kimbo bash but I just can’t help myself.
Here’s my prediction. No matter where he fights or who he fights for he will fail and here’s why.
If he is going to be a part of a professional organization he will have a couple of gimme fights and will appear in some freak shows. For any real fights he will fail miserably. After beating up on people weaker than him and with less genetics he is no longer fighting people scared and with less training and experience. Professional fighters will systematically tear him apart.
This isn’t a backyard or a parking lot or a school ground or jail where he is more comfortable or the stupid bully. I’m sorry but his own actions and decisions destined him for extreme ridicule and I hope his over all failure. I can only hope I get to watch and see the look on his face when he realizes he is way over his head. And it will happen.

i reckon it could happen if lesnar looses his title to nog/mir, odds on lesnar would have to start a fair bit back down the ladder and work his way up, he might jump ship to a smaller org than ufc, but highly doubt he will loose his title or even think about fighting kimbo, give him fedor i say

Also I’m curious…how does one show something he never really was? Show me a win over a quality opponent in his career and I’ll back down from my comments… sorry I normally am not like that but seriously he’s a side show with a beard, who smokes and drinks during training, he may train with one of the best but he’s never shown he’s actually learned anything from it all.
