Josh Barnett vs. Brett Rogers Possible For Affliction: Day of Reckoning
Josh Barnett (25-5) may finally have an opponent for his scheduled bout at Affliction: Day of Reckoning on January 24th at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
According to Five Ounces of Pain, former EliteXC heavyweight Brett Rogers (8-0) is Affliction’s preferred opponent for Barnett, though the matchup has not yet been officially signed.
Barnett, a top-10 ranked heavyweight, has won three-straight fights and eight of his last ten, with losses coming to notables Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. He most recently defeated Pedro Rizzo via second-round knockout at Affliction’s debut event, “Banned”, in July.
Rogers, a heavyweight up-and-comer, emerged as one of the top heavyweights in EliteXC and was long-rumored as a potential future opponent for Kimbo Slice, though the bout never materialized prior to Slice’s upset loss to Seth Petruzelli in October. Undefeated in his professional career, “The Grim” last defeated Jon Murphy via first-round TKO in May.

big big step up for rodgers, dont think he’s quite at that level yet but least we will get to see were abouts he is, i like rodgers tho hope he goes far.

If Rogers pulls this one off, will be huge for his career, but I just don’t see it happening at this time.
Yeah this is kinda a weak match-up for Barnett on paper. Hopefully Rogers steps up because otherwise Barnett will roll through Rogers. The only two guys I’ve ever seen own Barnett were Cro Cop and Big Nog so it should be interesting.

I actually would prefer a fight with Rogers should be fun but i think Josh will be too much for Brett.

I’m interested in this fight. I’m always excited to see Barnett fight, and I’m interested in seeing where Rogers is at. Barnett by TKO in the first.
I like this fight, sucks that we get to see Rogers fight again before Shields, but oh well. I think it will be a good judge of where Rogers really is, shame he didn’t get picked up by the UFC, though. I think Barnett will eat his lunch.

Honestly my money is also on Barnett in this one but have to give Brett some credit too. Rogers is one BIG, badass, young and promising fighter. Sure he has not fought any top notch opponents yet but he does have serious knockout power and a flawless record thus far… Get him in there with some real competition and see how he holds up. Either way, I am betting this one ends in the first round.
man i cant say who will win this one on paper it goes to barnett but alot of upsets have happened this year so i wont doubt rogers
I like Rogers and his Chris Boykin”Big Black” posse, i dont think he has ever gone to a second round in any of his fights but this will be a big step up in competition. I think this guy is for real and has had a hard time finding a quality opponent with Elite, he sure as hell would have destroyed Kimbo quickly but they kept him from Rogers.

I just don’t see him beating Josh Barnett yet he does have ko power soo anything may happen, but putting him up against one of the great HW’s for his first Affliction fight is a large task

cause although he has skillz he doesn’t seems to have the best strategies, or work hard to get hs cardio up.
while barnett doesn’t always look buff and chiselled, he seems to bop around endlessly like a giagantic school boy on twinkies.
