Strikeforce “Destruction” Results: Smith KO’s Martin, “Babalu” Slices To Title Victory Over Southworth

Scott Smith needed just 26-seconds to knockout Terry Martin in the main event of Strikeforce: Destruction on Friday night at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California.
In other featured action, Renato “Babalu” Sobral claimed the light heavyweight title from former title-holder Bobby Southworth, cutting the champion with an elbow late in the first that prompted the cageside physician to halt the bout between rounds, Duane Ludwig did just enough to edge Yves Edwards via unanimous judge’s decision, and Kim Couture earned her first professional victory, overwhelming Lina Kvokov with strikes in the first.

I don’t know sht about lina kvokov,but she seemed like she had know business being in there against kim.Or anybody for that matter.I’ve never seen someone turn there back to an opponent so many times in a fight.It’s sht like that that will make people question women’s mma.
how can they stop fights based on a cut? like come on glue it closed and let them continue
I think it’s more or less a visual problem there concerned about.But i do agree that it’s a lowsy way for a fight to end.And thats way i think there’s been talk in the past about not allowing elbows,because you never really see someone get rocked from an elbow.All they seem to do is create bad fight ending cuts.Although i do love those blood bath fights.
Was a good win for babalu … him and lindland is gonna be a good fight IMO . Actually , there are two or three beauties on that AFFLICTION card …… I might even buy the PPV .
is it wrong that everytime i hear Terry Martin loses I believe that an angel gets it’s wings?
Scott Smith is a good fighter for sure, but he’s so stiff, no head movement at all, but Terry was probably THE most over hyphed fighter ever to come into and out of the UFC.
No it’s not wrong muay,i kind of enjoy watching martin get KOd myself.Maybe it’s because he looks like mike tysons mini me.The best was the flying knee by irvin.That gave me a migrane.
Joe Riggs won a fight! The guys had bad luck in the past.
Actully, the Couture should have been a no contest, due to the 4 back of the head strikes and the fact that those strikes ended the fight. It doesn’t matter that Kvokov turned her back, Couture hit her repeatedly square on the back of the head.
Last night was a fun night forsure things worked out wonderfully
The doors opend at 532pm (pt) we tried to find out our seats and the ushers were confused we ended up finding them in the club level and soo we grabed a drink and proceeded to our desginated area…
I was watching the fighters warm~up and look to my left and Jake Sheilds was standing there with his date.. Not I’m a tall guy, but to say that Jake might be the Spud Webb of MMA might be true, ok all in jokes but he might 5′ 6″ maybe 5′ 7″ but never the less I shook his wee little hand asked him UFC or StrikeForce he smiled and walked down to his cage side seats..
There were only two prelim fights before they went live and those weren’t half bad, now with MMA being my crack and I’m clearly addicted I’m not missing a single moment plus I paid for this shhh so I’m going to enjoy it… About half way through the first fight Josh “the punk” Thompson walks by where we are sitting, now I can’t remember why he couldn’t fight last night but in all seriousness dude look like nothing was wrong with him, nice kid livin the life of a quasi star ya know
When Jimmy Lennon jr says ok San Jose you’re the hot bed of MMA blah blah I turned to my friend and said wow this place is still like 60% empty what a hot bed… I get to see Frank Shammy Shamm huge head (size) he is ripped probably cuz he has to support that thing, he is a star in that area and he stay to take pics with his fans it was cool..
Kim Couture fight, I was thinking the same thing that DBiz said how many times u going to allow her to hit her in the brain stem, that’s why shots to the back of the head aren’t allowed.. I swear to god when Randy came out we may have been the only ones who 1) gave a shh 2) knew who he was 3) clapped for him and so on… He looks 6′2″ 220
That takes me to Gina, she is in person 25ft away even hotter than her picks, she has a smile that literally catches your eye and you’re fixed on her, not fat hell does look as tho she needs to lose weight her body fits her quite nicely if I do say so myself
The crowd when the stadium does fill up is sooo bias it was um annoying, of you weren’t from NorCal you got no love (exception Kim Couture), they random booing is what got me, California is know for their habits of booing, but damn when there is actual good ground work going on they begin to boo? Eh owell atleast the area I was in mostly had knowledgeable fans in it…..
The Riggs fights was when the night started to get better everyone was paying attention becuase they wanted their boy to win soooo bad and Stew got dropped bad, I don’t know how it looked on tv but in person it looked painful, that’s when I think the crowd knew that some of the guys from NorCal may lose
Babalu is the Champ via a knarly elbow that cut Southworth the F open, Babalu got no love but whatever, I also didn’t hear the horn at the end of the round soo that was interesting, Babalu won his firts major championship congrats

The four fights after the Martin Smith destruction (see what I did there) were perhaps the most entertaining fights out of the lot i saw a guy get taken two points from him in a single round and then in the 3rd got the ko

O and the sound sucked in that place its like the didn’t even test it before the thing started it was like they didn’t want to turn it up too loud??!! That bothered me all night owell
“Bang” Ludwing sat next me for a minute with his wife I did a double take, and told him he deserved the win, then I asked did he think the fight against Gomi should have been stopped he smile and there wasn’t anything he could have done about it

oh…6′7″ is pretty tall. I know very few people that are much over 6′4″, I’m about 6′1 myself…so even at that height I’m used to looking over people, I bet its worse for you. I bet it really sucks if you have to fly those silly regional jets, the Embraers… I have to duck just to walk down the aisle.

the rematch should be awesome.
i have no problem with outhworth trying to slowly wear down opponents – but he himself needs then needs to survive to the later rounds against babalu in the rematch.
a cut might not seem to be a true way to win but in the jungle if you cut your opponent it’d continue to bleed and get worse every time it gets hit – so in that sense it’s legit. bleeding to death would actually cause you to lose. plus we can’t replay the fleshface scene from silence of the lambs can we?
Bobalu needs to be back in the UFC! Tom Atencio huh, go figure.
