Strikefore “Destruction” Weigh-In Results

Fighters tipped the scales yesterday at the Hotel DeAnza in San Jose, California to weigh-in for their bouts tonight at Strikeforce: Destruction, which takes place at the HP Pavilion in San Jose and airs live on HDNet beginning at 10pm ET.
Main event competitors Scott Smith and Terry Martin weighed in at 185.5 and 186 pounds respectively for their middleweight contest.
In the co-main event Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Bobby Southworth weighed in at 204 pounds and challenger Renato “Babalu” Sobral also weighed in at 204.
In the evening’s other featured bout Duane Ludwig weighed in at 163 pounds and Yves Edwards weighed in at 164 pounds for the catchweight bout.

I think southworth is a more miserable wanker, so in this fight I’m pulling for Babalu…though against someone else I might share your feelings.
Right!!! I’m not the biggest fan of Babalu but I hope he wins, remember when Babalu said “I train all year, Chuck I goin to kill you” or some shhh the he got ko’d in 93 seconds that was great ahhh memories
What’s the opinion for the Edwards, and Riggs fight? And, is Kim Couture the better half of Randy?

Yes, that’s Randy’s wife, and I think they would likely both pound you for calling her “his ****”. I use wanker a bit, and have for a while.
Next question and most importantly, is she hot?

I think this would be an interesting card. I think you have to lay off Gina a little though(no I’m not a fan of hers) she’s making a pretty big cut every time. I remember reading a doctor’s thing before her last fight saying she cuts too much weight and if the NCAA’s wrestling weight loss rules were in effect she wouldn’t be allowed to cut so far. Oh well that’s part of being in the women’s division where you have fewer weight classes. Now Fihlo? Guy has got to get his head on straight because he’s a shell of what he was.
As far as this goes? Smith-Martin I think will be a quick KO for whoever catches who first. I have to be honest even though I think he is a p-rick, Sobral is wicked when he is on but awful when he’s off so if the good Sobral shows up Southworth may leave his arm in the ring. Bang is one of my all-time faves so I’m going with him(i know I know bad reasoning but I’ll live. Still not sold on Couture yet, after that last fight she’ll have to earn my vote.

That’s crazy that she’s cutting more than would be allowed under those rules. I don’t know how much that necessarily means, but I given that I understand why its so hard for her to make weight. Filho, definitely needs to get his head on straight.
This card. I think Martin can KO smith, but whoever catches whom first is the right assessment. I’m pulling for Couture, that way maybe one of the two elder Coutures can pick up a win this week.

So, I just realized the title says “strikefore”.
Chris L What is the different between NCAA and what they are sanctioned under now? And, who are they governed by for these matters. I’d be interested in seeing the numbers.
I seem to recall Gina has to cut about 30 pounds from Gladiators weight to fight. Maybe she should just….I don’t know….FIGHT AT A LITTLE HEAVIER WEIGHT?
I have arrived @ the HP Pavilion and I will let u know that StrikeForce and Dan Guiteirrez (sp) went completely out of their way to get me and my friends the absolutely best wheelchair accesable seat avaliable, we are essentially at the fighter entrance are mid level (club level I guess) the staff is great I’m watching the fighters warm up, Southworth is doing a interview he looks well cocky, Babalu looks very focused, Yves is bigger than I thought he would be (height wise)… The suprise for my buddy is great he is super pumped and it should fun cheers to all

dbiz- there isn’t another weight class right now actually, Elite XC created the 140lbs division. Women’s MMA has basically arbitrary rules right now. They are just basic guidelines and the last time I checked there were no official weight classes for women other than the standard ones that the men have. Anything else is created by the promotion.
Surfingk5- The NCAA requires all wrestlers to submit to a skin fold test and a hydration test before the season. The wrestlers are then sent back a form saying what is the lowest weight they are allowed to weigh in at during the season. If they weigh-in lower than that they are DQ’d and face a possible suspension. Several guys on my Juco team had to bump weight classes(including me) because we were unable to wrestle in the weight classes we planned on. Some tournaments also require subsequent hydration testing as well. MMA does not really have any guidelines on cutting weight. Half of what you see on TUF would actually warrant a DQ under NCAA rules. Guys still get away with stuff in college but there are penalties that would be enforced if you were caught.
