UFC 76: Justin McCully Added to Card
Team Punishment fighter and UFC heavyweight Justin McCully will make his return to action at UFC 76 on September 22nd in Anaheim. His opponent is not yet known. McCully has been rumored to be on a September UFC card for some time although what card he would be fighting at was not yet determined.
The 8-3-2 mixed martial artist who trains with Tito Ortiz as part of Team Punishment, opened his MMA career in the late 1990s with a pair of draws. After going a modest 7-3 over his next 10 MMA fights which were spread over nearly a decade McCully got the call to fight in the UFC to fill in for an injured Frank Mir. McCully defeated Antoni Hardonk on the televised portion of UFC Fight Night 9 in April. The win earned McCully another UFC fight.
Although he still has a lot to prove based on his single UFC fight and average MMA record, filling in for a former UFC champion on a free UFC event generated a lot of buzz. Of course, training with Tito Ortiz doesn’t hurt either.

I could care less if I ever saw this guy fight again.
Steve, I think you represent the feelings of a lot of fans who were not impressed with McCully in his first fight. I really want to see him fight a couple more times before I can draw a good opinion on them but he really needs to push the action in this fight. The UFC has said it in the past that sometimes they would prefer to have a fighter push the action and lose than to wait it out for a unanimous decision victory.
It will be interesting to see who his opponent is.
McCully is a great fighter.I mean,Antoni Hardonk is 6'4'',240 and is a jiu-jitsu heavyweight, and McCully mowed him down.He really can't get comfortable just standing their pawing at guys,Tim Sylvia did,and Randy Couture beat him down!
I agree. He just did not seem like he had anything to offer. He works with Tito so you know all he does is GNP. Tito's GNP doesn't seem to cut it anymore so McCully is going to have to show us his standup.
His first fight really wasn't the greatest debut. I mean a win is great in your first fight but he needs to crank up the action to win over fans and to receive a boost in competition to work up the division.
I too am interested to see his standup.
